Half Man Half Biscuit / Upcoming Shows / A Letter to the Editor

Hi valued subscribers!

Half Man Half Biscuit

I saw my favourite band ever last week thanks to being The Mate Of The Bloke I met at the Walthamstow Wassail, and wrote up a review for the Morning Star.

I’m really proud of it - someone said it was “as tight as the band”, which for a HMHB fan is high praise indeed.

Letter to the Editor

Letter raising concerns of The Guardian and The Observer’s increasingly transphobic coverage – jamesofwalsh

Dear Guardian reader’s editor, Equating supporting trans rights with being a violent misogynist for clicks I am an ex-employee of the Guardian and am increasingly concerned by the rising tide of tr…

Like many, I am increasingly concerned by the Guardian and Observer’s ongoing hate campaign against trans people. As an ex-employee I take it more personally from the supposed home of liberalism than I would from papers with a more historical tendency to harbour and mainstream far right attack lines, such as the Times or the S*n.

The Guardian is unique in having an editorially independent reader’s editor. Chris Elliott was in this role during my time there, and took his job very seriously.

So if anyone else out there still reads the Guardian and is concerned about the increasingly persistent transphobia contained therein, I would advise complaining to whoever Chris’ successor might be (here’s hoping they’re not a TERF).

Oh I am come to the low country

Happy Burns Night for those that celebrate! Here’s what my folk choir sung to honour the old Scottish poet man.

Oh I am come to the low country – jamesofwalsh

It is Burns Night tonight, and so at folk club on Monday we sang some Rabbie Burns, specifically 1794’s The Highland Widow’s Lament. Full lyric is published below – he’s long dead, so I suspe…

Thanks so much for reading! Have a lovely week and see you all soon I hope.
