Clambering back upon my comedy bicycle
Greetings loyal readers,
Welcome to my first newsletter of 2022. I hope the new year finds you well. From my current position, I can see the Post Office tower pointing up into the foggy January sky, as though readying itself to jab the arses of the very Gods.
And similarly I find myself poised, alert and optimistic, ready to thrust myself into assorted comedy gambits after the Omicron-hit festive period.
Factually Inaccurate Stand-Up on Tuesday 8th February, with Isy Suttie, Richard Vranch and Charlie Vero-Martin!
Factually Inaccurate Stand-Up: Arthur Smith! Bex Turner! Richard Vranch! Tickets, Tue, Feb 8, 2022 at 8:00 PM | Eventbrite
Funny lectures, stand up and character comedy at a lovely, cabaret-style venue, overseen by an imaginary owl
My owl-run stand-up, silly lecture, and comedy character night returns to Hoopla at The Miller in London Bridge. I’m really excited about this line up.
Isy Suttie is probably the biggest name we’ve booked so far - thanks for recommending us to her, Joz Norris - but we’re overjoyed to welcome back improv legend Richard Vranch, and to welcome Charlie Vero-Martin, who has definitely never performed at our shows before as a marine biologist or dead Italian poet.
Plus - look - a woman from Brighton with a chainsaw.
I did an interview with Phoenix Remix explaining what we’re about - please do read it! I say some funny things!

Next Level Sketch on tour - Bristol Improv Theatre on Saturday 29th January and Leicester Comedy Festival on 2nd and 3rd February!
Also back in the saddle (like the equestrian nuns in Sister Act 2) is the sketch troupe wot I produce, Next Level Sketch.
We’re leaving the reassuring streets of London, where you’re never more than six feet from a rat with a Prêt à Manger, to travel to the bucolic environs of (checks notes) “Bristol” and “Leicester”. We’re doing greatest hits style sets, we’ve got fantastic casts for both… please come along!
https://improvtheatre.co.uk/event/up-the-antics-3/THEN we are heading to the MIDLANDS for two shows as part of the @LeicsComedyFest. Please tell all your midland friends to come along, even if they’re from the imaginary county of Rutland. Poster by @isnadinehere pic.twitter.com/PPld5iTPKP

Comedy Virgin in Stockwell on the 31st January
Before Christmas, I completed my level 2 stand-up course with Nick Hall, culminating in a triumphant performance at a gig above a pub in Whitechapel. I’m trying to gig more regularly as a stand-up despite still not fully understanding what my inner clown is.
If you’d like to watch me try to find him then I’m performing the late (9pm start) show at the lovely Cavendish Arms in Stockwell. I hope you like jokes about socialism!
That’s it for now! I know we are all like furry woodland creatures emerging from a long hibernation, and that some of us still actually have Covid, but I hope to hang out and do more socialising with you humans soon. And also you know write more about books and stuff. I’m currently reading Last Futures by Douglas Murphy and it is VERY GOOD.
Lots of love,
J x
