Job & Internship Opportunities

Curious about where JMC students intern? We asked a few Madisonians to share where they’ve worked:

Flint Study Away Summer Internship Program (Info Session) 
Oct. 6, 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 230 Psychology Building. Spend Summer 2026 gaining firsthand pre-professional work experience through the unique, community-based Flint Study Away Internship. This program includes placement across multiple sectors such as Public Health & Community Services, Policy & Advocacy, Law & Local Government, Business & Entrepreneurship and more. Canadian Consulate in Detroit Internship
The Consulate General of Canada in Detroit is seeking one full-time or two part-time interns from December 2025 to May 2026. Interns gain international work experience that can be used for JMC’s Field Experience requirement. Email your resume, cover letter and contact information for two references to csc@msu.edu by Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. The selected intern(s) will be supported with a scholarship to help offset some of the costs for this internship. Roosevelt Network Undergraduate Fellowships
The Roosevelt Network’s undergraduate fellowships develop and support students to become the next generation of leaders in the progressive policy ecosystem. Applications for the 2026–27 academic year open Oct. 1 and close Jan. 12. Explore opportunities via Roosevelt Institute website.

William A. Demmer Scholars Program
The William A. Demmer Scholars Program is a three-credit course and paid internship in Washington, D.C., offered during summer 2026. The program runs May 18 to Aug. 7, with weekly evening and Saturday classes on natural resources policy, plus internships at federal agencies or NGOs. Students gain experience through guest speakers, weekend trips and networking opportunities. Apply by Oct. 19. Learn more and apply via MSU CANR website 

Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) 2026 Fellowship 
Applications are now open for the 2026 PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship, a program that prepares undergraduate juniors for graduate study and leadership in public policy, public administration and international affairs. Fellows receive academic training, professional development, and join a lifelong network of peers and public service leaders. An info session for applicants will be held Sept. 29, 1 to 2 p.m. Apply by Nov. 1. Learn more and apply via PPIA Website 

Teach For America Ignite
Open to all college students. This part-time, paid virtual tutoring opportunity allows you to support K–12 students during the school day while building key career skills. Apply by Nov. 19. Apply via Teach For America Website 

Law Office Messenger 
Thrun Law Firm is seeking a Law Office Messenger to work at their East Lansing office (127 Lake Lansing Rd.). Approximately 20 hours per week (with flexible scheduling), paying $15/hour plus mileage reimbursement. Applicants must have a dependable vehicle and an excellent driving record. Prior law office experience is preferred, but training will be provided for the right candidate. Immediate start available. Availability on Mondays and Wednesdays is especially preferred to help fulfill current scheduling needs. Apply via via Handshake.

Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan Internship
Are you interested in helping others resolve conflict? Consider interning at RSCCM! This internship offers:

  • Free mediation training

  • Hans-on experience with the legal process

  • Learning mediation skills, such as how to de-escalate conflict

  • The opportunity to interact with attorneys and courts

Peace Corps Application Workshops
Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. via Zoom. Learn how to browse Peace Corps volunteer openings, find the right program and strengthen your application. Learn more via the Peace Corps.

JMC Skills Seminar: Resume and Cover Letter Development 
Sept. 29, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in 329 Case Hall. Learn best practices and revise your own professional documents in this interactive workshop. Attendees can also begin working on documents from scratch. Register to attend via Handshake
Note: This event can be counted as one of the three required events to earn the JMC Career Readiness Badge.

Virtual Internship Fair: Michigan Career Educator & Employer Alliance
Oct. 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., held virtually. Connect with employers from across Michigan who are hiring interns in a variety of industries. This free event is open to internship seekers of all backgrounds and majors. Contact skibinj@michigan.gov to register.  

Funding Opportunities

Gordon and Norma Public Policy Internship Award
This award is open to students of any major who are planning a public policy-related internship that will count for MSU internship credit. Applications for the Fall 2025 Semester are now open (apply by Sept. 26). Find more information on the award and application details via PDF. 

Madisonian Mention: Ashlin Stover

Congratulations to JMC student Ashlin Stover (IR), MSU's first recipient of the Voyager Scholarship! The Voyager Scholarship for Public Service is the brainchild of the Obamas and Brian Chesky, CEO and co-founder of Airbnb, to support students who demonstrate a passion for helping others, experience serving their communities and an expansive view of what’s possible through public service. he scholarship provides college students financial aid, meaningful travel experiences, and a network of mentors and leaders to support them.
