JMC Madison in Washington Program

 Applications for the JMC Madison in Washington Congressional Internship Program (Spring 2026) close on Monday. One student will intern with Senator Elissa Slotkin’s Office on Capitol Hill from Jan. 17-May 2, 2026, gaining hands-on experience in federal public affairs while earning MC 400 & MC 401 credit. JMC will cover housing costs in Washington, D.C., and the internship is paid. Open to all JMC majors (junior/senior status preferred). Internship & Job Opportunities

MDARD International Marketing Internship  
The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development hiring for their International Marketing Internship (Jan. 5-Aug. 31, 2026, with optional extension and flexibility for an earlier start date). Based in Lansing, 12 to 13 hours/week. Responsibilities include aiding in organizing international marketing activities, contacting Michigan companies, writing success stories on Michigan companies that have participated in programs and services, and more. Senator Elissa Slotkin Spring Internship  
Applications are now open to Senator Elissa Slotkin’s Spring Semester Internship Program. This opportunity is open to both the Washington, D.C. and Michigan offices. This is a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in public service and government operations. Washington interns will assist in answering phones, attending hearings and briefings, and support legislative staff with policy research and administrative tasks. Michigan interns will assist with on-the-ground outreach, answer constituent calls, and support the constituent services team in providing resources and assistance to residents across the state. Allen Neighborhood Center Fellowship Opportunities 
The Allen Neighborhood Center is a place-based, non-profit organization that serves as a hub for neighborhood revitalization and for activities that promote the health and well-being of Lansing’s Eastside community. They are currently seeking candidates for their various fellowships. Each position will be 15 hours per week and be paid $12.48/hour if the student qualifies for work study. Otherwise, students will be paid a $650 stipend. Different fellowship opportunities are listed below. Apply by Nov. 1. 

• Community Farming Fellow: Great for students interested in working and learning about an all-natural, sustainable, and local farm located in the Eastside community. 

• Community Engagement and Advocacy Fellow: This position assists the Outreach Office with whatever they might need as well as running programs and events to bring the community together. 

• Veggie Box Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fellow: Fellows will assist in the development and promotion of Veggie Box, manage relationships with local farmers and members, as well as support other areas as needed. 

• Food Pantry and Farmers Market Fellowship: Great for those interested in food pantry and farmers, market management, marketing, communications, community development and/or financials/booking. 

• Youth Programs Fellowship: Fellows will assist with running and development of the program and must enjoy working with kids. 

• Kitchen Operations and Events Fellowship: ANC’s Incubator and Accelerator Kitchen program utilizes commercial shared-use kitchens to help scale operations for food businesses. Fellows will assist with the running and development of this program.  

Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) 2026 Fellowship 
Applications are now open for the 2026 PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship, a program that prepares undergraduate juniors for graduate study and leadership in public policy, public administration and international affairs. Fellows receive academic training, professional development, and join a lifelong network of peers and public service leaders. Apply by Nov. 1 via PPIA Website.

Teach For America Ignite
Open to all college students. This part-time, paid virtual tutoring opportunity allows you to support K–12 students during the school day while building key career skills. Apply by Nov. 19. Apply via Teach For America Website.

Roosevelt Network Undergraduate Fellowships

Internships 101
Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. in S329 Case Hall. Join the JMC Field Experience Coordinator Lauren Michalak to learn about resources and strategies for finding an internship — whether for credit or just to gain experience. The session will end with a discussion on what satisfies the JMC Field Experience requirement. Learn more via JMC

Internship Spotlight: Cami Rushlau

Cami is a senior majoring in social relations and policy with a minor in history!

“This past summer (Summer 2025), I interned for the mediation division at the Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan, a non-profit organization based in Lansing. This was mainly an education-based internship where I was taught every step in the mediation process (from a legal standpoint to the ethics) and observed countless mediations. I even took a mediation certification training at the center, intending to conduct mediations here in the future, now that I am an employee. I participated in filing and documenting cases, as well as serving as the scribe at numerous events and meetings. I have also been involved in discussions with the City of Lansing's Human Relations and Community Services regarding future projects that require full community commitment, from everyday citizens to nonprofit and governmental organizations.

“This internship has opened me up to the legal world that I have been preparing for at JMC. Conflict resolution and open, peaceful dialogue are something that I greatly value, and being able to apply my academic knowledge from JMC into my internship and passions helped create a pathway to my current employment with RSCCM. I could not be more grateful.“
