JMC Career Exposure Program

Applications for JMC’s May Career Exposure Program in Detroit close tomorrow. From May 4-6, 2026, participants will:

• travel to Detroit to meet with over a dozen alumni and employers,

• engage with a "Careers in Law" panel featuring Madisonians in the legal field,

• and attend an alumni reception for networking opportunities.

The program fee (approx. $450) will cover lodging, transportation and some group activities. All student levels (from first year to those who graduate in May) welcome. Apply via Qualtrics by March 24.

Spring & Summer 2025 Grads

• JMC is hosting a free professional portrait opportunity for Class of 2026 graduates on April 9. Schedule a time to have your photo taken via Qualtrics.

• Graduates are also invited to share a highlight from their time at the college to be featured on JMC’s social media channels.

How Islamic Architecture Shaped Europe 
March 24, 12:40 p.m. in Room 303 International Center. Join author Diana Darke in exploring connections between Syria and Europe, examining the Christian art and architecture still extant on the hillsides of Syria, where many fourth, fifth, and sixth-century churches can be studied. An Economist's Guide to Environmentalism
March 24, 5 p.m. in Club Spartan, 338 Case Hall. Jordan K. Lofthouse is a Senior Fellow with the F. A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, as well as a Program Director of Research and Programs at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. He will discuss how the economic way of thinking can explain the rise of environmental problems and offer a framework to evaluate the vast array of potential solutions. Learn more via JMC Events.

Hip Hop Hangout: Black History Mixtape
March 25, 6 p.m. in the JMC Library, 332 Case Hall. Hip Hop Hangout is a series of community events organized by All of the Above Hip Hop Academy and RCAH and JMC students. This event will celebrate Lansing's rich hip-hop community and culture in a revival of JMC's Black History Month Tiny Desk Concert. RSVP via Eventbrite.

James Madison College 4th Annual Women’s History Month Colloquium
March 27, 1 p.m. at Cowles House (1 Abbot Road). Our keynote speaker will be Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh. Business casual attire. All guests must be present and seated by 1 p.m. RSVP via Qualtrics.

March 2026 Alumnus in Residence

JMC students are invited to connect one-on-one with Madison’s March alumnus in residence, Kyle Bruckner (IR ‘10). Bruckner is a a Senior Intelligence Officer with the Michigan Air National Guard. The Alumni in Residence program offers students the opportunity to connect and network with graduates working in a variety of fields. Schedule a 15-minute Zoom meeting with Bruckner via Calendly to discuss life during and after JMC.

JMC Student Senate Gala
April 10, 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Graduate Hotel in East Lansing. Join James Madison College Student Senate to celebrate another incredible year at JMC. This year’s event will feature our traditional silent auction, with proceeds benefiting The Davies Project, a Lansing-based non-profit dedicated to “providing reliable transportation for seriously ill children and pregnant women to essential healthcare.” It’s a night of community, celebration and giving back. Buy tickets via Eventbrite.

Fulbright US Student Program: Teach, Study or Research Abroad Info Session 
Learn about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and how you can teach, study, or conduct research abroad after graduation. Open to MSU students (especially juniors and seniors) and recent graduates. These sessions will walk through eligibility, application tips, and the range of global opportunities available. All three sessions are identical, so you only need to attend one.

Holocaust and Genocide Curriculum Workshop for Teacher Candidates
Applications are now open for the 2026 Holocaust and Genocide Curriculum Workshop for MSU students interested in teaching. Participate in a four-day curriculum inquiry workshop about Holocaust and Genocide Teaching in English Language Arts and Social Studies alongside in-service teachers. Workshop will be held on MSU’s campus Aug. 3-6, 2026. Tuition and meals provided, in addition to a $500 stipend. Learn more and apply via MSU Qualtrics

Students with questions about internships and education abroad programs can meet with Field Experience Coordinator Lauren Michalak for drop-in advising on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. in 329 South Case Hall.

JMC Community Counselor: Drop-In Counseling
CAPS Connect counselor Victor Léon is available for free, confidential drop-in counseling on Monday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. in S363 Case Hall. Visit MSU CAPS Connect for more information.

Writing Center at JMC
Need help working through an assignment, essay or presentation? The Writing Center at JMC in 341 Case Hall will be open Monday-Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Schedule an appointment or drop in.

Associate Dean Linda Racioppi holds weekly office hours on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in S359 Case Hall. Stop in to discuss your academic journey with college leadership. These drop-in office hours are open to all Madison students.

“My name is Khushi Gooroochurn, and I am a senior majoring in Social Relations & Policy and International Relations at JMC, with minors in Women & Gender Studies and Japanese! In addition to studying at JMC, I am also the Senior Assistant Recruitment Coordinator in our very own Office of Outreach & Recruitment! I work closely with our Recruitment Coordinator, Jahshua Smith, and our team of coordinators and ambassadors to get prospective students through the door.”

Some of my favorite courses have allowed me to apply my interest in activism to academia, like Prof. Goett's Women and Power or Prof. Harrison's Global Citizenship course.
