JMC Career Exposure Program

Interested in seeing where your JMC degree can take you? Curious about what a career in the Detroit area might look like? Join JMC's Career Services and Field Experience Offices for the Madison Career Exposure Program in Detroit (May 4-6, 2026). Participants will:

• meet with over a dozen alumni and employers,

• engage with a "Careers in Law" panel featuring Madisonians in the legal field,

• and attend an alumni reception for networking opportunities.

The program fee (approx. $450) will cover lodging, transportation and some group activities. All student levels (from first year to those who graduate in May) welcome. Apply via Qualtrics by March 24.

March 2026 Alumnus in Residence

JMC students are invited to connect one-on-one with Madison’s March alumnus in residence, Kyle Bruckner (IR ‘10). Bruckner is a Senior Intelligence Officer with the Michigan Air National Guard. The Alumni in Residence program offers students the opportunity to connect and network with graduates working in a variety of fields. Schedule a 15-minute Zoom meeting with Bruckner via Calendly to discuss life during and after JMC.

More about Kyle Bruckner:

• I am a seasoned national security professional with over 15 years experience as well as a licensed attorney

• During my time at Madison, I vividly remember appreciating the small campus feel/community at Case Hall

• The importance of critical thinking and writing are skills I've carried with me throughout my professional life since my time at Madison

• I'm excited to dialogue with students during this residency about our shared but unique experiences at Madison

• Three words I'd use to describe Madison would probably be Service, History, and Purpose

• And my favorite spot on campus is probably relaxing outside the Union

Internship & Job Opportunities

Community Engagement Scholars Program 
The Community Engagement Scholars Program is now accepting applications for 2026-27. Offered by the Center for Community Engaged Learning and the Michigan State University Office of the President, this academic-year-long program connects students with Michigan-based community organizations for hands-on engagement. There are 10 positions available. Participants will receive a $2,500 stipend/semester during this part-time, on-site program. Transportation support provided. Apply by March 13 via MSU Qualtrics Form.

Allen Neighborhood Center Fellowship Opportunities 
The Allen Neighborhood Center is a place-based, non-profit organization that serves as a hub for neighborhood revitalization and activities that promote the health and well-being of Lansing’s Eastside community. Each position will be 15 hours per week and be paid at $13.73/hr only if the student qualifies for work study. If they don't qualify for work study, they will be paid a $650 stipend. Apply by March 14. 

• Community Farming Fellow: Great for students interested in learning about an all-natural, sustainable and local farm located in the Eastside community. 

• Community Engagement and Advocacy Fellow: This position assists the Outreach Office with whatever they might need as well as running programs and events to bring the community together. 

• Veggie Box Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fellow: Fellows will assist in the development and promotion of Veggie Box, manage relationships with local farmers and members, as well as support other areas as needed. 

• Food Pantry and Farmers Market Fellowship: Great for those interested in food pantry and farmers, market management, marketing, communications, community development and/or financials/booking. 

• Youth Programs Fellowship: Fellows will assist with running and development of the program and must enjoy working with kids. 

Public Policy & Stakeholder Engagement Associate Position  The Partnership for Public Service is seeking an Associate to support its policy and advocacy work focused on strengthening the federal government and public service. This role helps conduct policy research, develop policy products, coordinate events, and engage with government and policy stakeholders. This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC, with a start date in late April or early May 2026. Apply by March 20 via the Partnership for Public Service.

The Spartan Engagement Ambassador (SEA) Program 
The Office of Community and Student Relations (CSR), under the Division of Student Affairs and MSU Government Relations, is pleased to announce the Spartan Engagement Ambassador (SEA) Program. The Spartan Engagement Ambassador (SEA) program connects MSU students with local governments and community organizations to gain hands-on experience in community engagement and economic development. Students work with partner organizations throughout the year and participate in cohort meetings focused on professional growth and reflection. Participants receive a $600 monthly stipend while working an average of 10-12 hours per week with their partner site and the ambassador program. Harris County, Texas: Leadership Internship Program 
The Harris County Texas leadership program is seeking young adults interested in experience that connects leadership development, community and public service to career opportunities. During this 10-week summer internship program, students will be immersed in local government programs, policies and issues as they build professional skills for their future careers. Students will be able to apply to one or more of the program areas including marketing, youth education, and research and policy. This opportunity is open to current students. NSA Cooperative Education Program 
The National Security Agency (NSA) is offering its Cooperative Education Program for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in intelligence, cybersecurity and advanced technology. Students work on real-world projects supporting national security missions while developing technical skills in areas such as computer science, engineering, cybersecurity, data science and mathematics. This paid internship is based in Fort Meade, MD, and follows a 52-week alternating schedule for school and work. Apply by March 31 via USA Jobs.

NSA Missouri Department of Transportation: Administrative Intern (emergency management) 
This position provides entry-level implementation of the department’s emergency management programs, assists with emergency communications and radio systems, and supports disaster recovery. Interns will assist with Central Office Emergency Operations Center activities and monitor transportation and infrastructure emergency management issues. This opportunity is located in Jefferson City, Missouri, and is open to all current students. Apply by March 31 via Missouri Careers.

Aric Nesbitt for Governor: Spring/Summer Internship 
The Nesbitt for Governor is seeking driven and politically hungry students for campaign roles for 2026. Selected candidates will have a front row seat to the operation of a statewide campaign, while gaining valuable experience and learning from seasoned political professionals. Opportunities are available for both communications/social media and political internships. Part-time, paid, and flexible with start times and hours. Responsibilities include assisting with daily campaign operations and special projects, help with field and grassroots activities, assist with data entry, support campaign events, and additional duties as assigned. Career Services Network is seeking applicants for the Unpaid Internship Opportunity Award. This award encourages students who have demonstrated the capacity to accomplish educational and professional goals to further progress towards their career. Habitat for Humanity: Volunteer Program Coordinator 
Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking a Volunteer Program Coordinator to manage and grow its volunteer program by recruiting and scheduling volunteers, coordinating events, building community and partnerships, tracking engagement and supporting outreach efforts. CLEO Inc. Pre-Law Summer Institute 
Prelaw Summer Institute (PLSI) is a rigorous, residential program designed to familiarize and better prepare students for success in law school. PLSI 2026 will begin with a two-week (May 23 – July 2) virtual introduction to law school, followed by immersive on-campus experience hosted by Penn State Dickenson Law in Pennsylvania. Internship Spotlight: Madeline Strauss

Madeline Strauss is a a JMC senior majoring in Social Relations & Policy and Public Relations. Learn about her internship below!

“Since August, I have been interning at Resch Strategies, a public affairs and communications firm in downtown Lansing. I support coalitions, associations and advocacy groups as they work to influence policy across Michigan. My responsibilities include writing press releases, media materials and newsletters, building media lists, tracking news coverage, and helping with communications for city and state legislative efforts. I often take complex policy topics and turn them into clear messages that can shape public opinion and support legislative goals. One highlight was helping with an op-ed that was published in The Detroit News. That experience showed me how communications can directly affect public policy debates. This internship has let me use what I learned in my Public Relations classes and my James Madison College policy courses, and it has made me even more interested in public affairs and advocacy communications.”
