JMC Field Experience Info Session
Sept. 23, 12 to 1 p.m. in 332 Case Hall. This workshop will cover what satisfies the JMC Field Experience Requirement and explore internship opportunities and resources available to students. This session is especially geared towards those who are planning to complete the requirement in the next few semesters.
Leonard Gilman Lecture – Two Tribes: The Real-Life Story of a Jewish-Native American
Sept. 23, 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the MSU Main Library. Emily Bowen Cohen will discuss the childhood memories that inspired her debut graphic novel. Emily traces the history of her Jewish and her Muscogee ancestors, exploring the similarities and differences. Federal Health Policy Internships Info Session
Sept. 24, 3 p.m. in 337 Case Hall. JMC’s Field Experience Office will host an info session with Dr. Christa-Marie Singleton, Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Dr. Singleton will discuss and answer questions about opportunities for students to participate in a remote internship with the OPM working on health policy matters for Spring 2025 and Summer 2025. Climate Change: Impacts and Resilience Across Kerala, India
Sept. 24, 5 to 6:30 p.m. in 332 Case Hall. Climate change impacts are multifaceted, affecting environment, resources and resource user livelihoods in varying degrees. Climate anomalies affect recruitment, species composition, phenology, distribution and migration of fish resources. Dr. Shyam Salim, Principal Scientist at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, will share the experiences of the diverse climate resilience adaptation and mitigation strategies evolved over the years in India. Home (2023) Film Screening and Discussion
Sept. 24, 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Natural Science Building 116 (288 Farm Lane). This event will include a film screening of Home (set in Israel, Hebrew language with English subtitles), followed by a discussion with Dr. Nechumi Yaffe, a faculty member in the Department of Public Policy at Tel Aviv University. MSU CN Forum: “Beyond the Gordie Howe Bridge: Reimagining Trade and Commerce for a New Age”
Sept. 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MSU Henry Center. The MSU CN Forum will allow attendees to better understand the US-Canada relationship and how the Gordie Howe International Bridge, connecting Windsor and Detroit, can further trade and diplomatic relations. The Forum will consist of a morning and afternoon fireside chat-style panel discussion, a morning presentation by the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, and a mid-day keynote by Lt. OJEI Grand Rapids Trip
Sept 28, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Join the Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion for bowling and a visit to Art Prize in Grand Rapids. The group will leave Case Hall at 10 a.m. and return by 6:30 p.m. Space is available for the first 30 students who respond. The Civility Project: Journalist Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson
Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Wharton Center. The Civility Project seeks to help Americans build civility – in the workplace, political spheres, or any social setting – by adopting basic principles in our interactions with others. Join journalists Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson as they tell their story, share their perspectives and lead a lively conversation on their importance of civility. JMC Transfer Student Connection
Oct. 2, 4 to 5 p.m. at JMC Library, 332 Case Hall. Did you transfer to JMC after your first year? You’re not the only one! Come join us for the chance to meet with fellow Madison transfer students and academic advisors to learn more about resources and to build community while enjoying some refreshments. Attendees can also help develop a student organization that will support fellow transfer students. This event is open to all JMC students who transferred into JMC after their first year of college. JMC Skills Seminar #1: Resume and Cover Letter Development
Oct. 2, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at JMC Library, 332 Case Hall. Need a refresher (or starting point) on drafting a resume or cover letter to help get you that opportunity you’ve got your eye on? Join James Madison College’s Career Services and Field Experience Offices for the first of three Skills Seminars: Resume and Cover Letter Development. This event is part of a new three-part series. Students who complete all three seminars will receive coaching on how to list the professional development skills gained through the series on their professional documents and online profiles. JMC Human Rights Data Science Lab
The JMC Human Rights Data Science Lab is a volunteer-student organization that aids international organizations with open-source data collection. Typical lab work includes open content search, social media analysis, data entry, data visualization and formal presentations to organizations, including International Criminal Court and Amnesty International. Madison Academic Diversity Initiative (MADI)
Applications are now open for Madison Academic Diversity Initiative (MADI). MADI will connect students to academic resources and networking through mentorship with Madison faculty. Throughout the fall and spring semesters, participants will develop professional connections with JMC faculty, attend monthly cohort meetings, and complete a community service project. Internships & Employment
JMC Student Ambassador
JMC is seeking Student Ambassadors for the fall 2024 semester, with the possibility to be re-hired for subsequent semesters. This position is a project pay position where Ambassadors are paid a lump sum upon the completion of each successful semester. As part of the JMC recruitment team, Student Ambassadors engage in outreach with prospective students and their families, answering questions and speaking from the current student perspective. YOURE(in)CHARJ: Undergraduate Research Fellow Position
YOURE (In) CHARJ is a student-led, community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) initiative focused on the intersection of climate justice, racial equity and health. This program offers students the opportunity to actively engage in research that directly impacts local communities in rural and urban areas. JMC Student Research Assistant
JMC is seeking a Student Research Assistant to assist Prof. Sejuti Das Gupta with her book project, Agrarian Transformation and Inequality in India. The successful candidate will copy edit a paper for a journal, read journal articles and create an annotated bibliography and conduct literature review. Approximately 10 hours/week ($15/hour). Marketing & Advertising Internship: City of East Lansing
East Lansing Downtown Management Board is seeking an intern to support promotion of East Lansing’s downtown. This internship will provide experience to an individual in the areas of digital marketing, advertising, communications, event planning, placemaking and economic development. Tom Barrett for Congress Internship
Tom Barrett for Congress is seeking highly motivated students eager to gain hands-on experience in grassroots campaigning. Your role will include a variety of tasks such as grassroots outreach, volunteer coordination, door-to-door canvassing, event planning, assisting with administrative duties, distributing yard signs, and managing phone inquiries. This position offers flexible hours, with a commitment of eight hours during the week and four hours on weekends. This internship will offer valuable experience and career-building recommendations along with the chance to network with top professionals in Republican politics. GenVote Defenders
GenVote Defenders is a nonpartisan national youth-led program mobilizing Gen Z to recruit and train hundreds of young people to become election protection volunteers, help voters exercise their right to vote and mobilize young people to defend against potential attempts of election subversion in local communities across the country. The organization is recruiting college students in Michigan to become GenVote Defenders, who will receive a small stipend and join a cohort-style leadership development program. JMC Community Counselor: Drop-In Counseling
James Madison has a dedicated counselor on staff, Courtney Brown, available for drop-in counseling on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (S363 Case Hall).
