JMC’s Meet the Majors events continue this week. All first-year Madison students are invited to meet with faculty and learn more about the college's majors and minors at this upcoming event series. Students are strongly encouraged to attend all Meet the Majors sessions prior to declaring a major.

Title IX at MSU: From Larry Nassar to Mel Tucker
Nov. 18, 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Club Spartan (338 Case Hall). Liz Abdnour, a PTCD graduate, will share her experiences and insights working as an attorney in Title IX cases at MSU. Brussels Study Abroad Information Session
Nov. 21, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Club Spartan (338 Case Hall). Applications for the International Relations in Brussels program are now open. This program is a great opportunity to study European politics and institutions in the heart of the European Union. Come to the information session to learn about the academic and cultural aspects of the program and how to apply. Contact Prof. Robert Brathwaite (brathwa1@msu.edu) with questions.
Graduate Programs in International Affairs
Nov. 22, 12 p.m. in the JMC Library (332 Case Hall). Recruiters will be visiting from Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service, Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and Tufts' Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy to offer overviews of their IR-focused programs and advice for candidates interested in applying for graduate studies.
This is a great opportunity to hear from all four schools simultaneously on a range of topics, including:
The graduate school application process (how to stand out in your applications, what programs are looking for in candidates);
Admissions requirements and timelines;
Financial aid and scholarships; and
Career opportunities in public policy and international affairs.

Policymaking as a Scientist with State Rep. Julie Brixie
Dec. 2, 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Holmes Hall, Room C-103 (919 E. Shaw Lane). State Rep. Brixie will discuss how her background in crop and soil sciences, with a focus on environmental toxicology, has influenced her approach to lawmaking in Michigan. Brixie has over 18 years of local government experience and has led committees related to agriculture, natural resources and tax policy. This conversation will be an inspiring look at the role of science in shaping public policy. Register to attend via Google Forms

Dec. 4, 6 to 8 p.m. in Club Spartan and the JMC Library. Need a break from studying? This event will help you de-stress and recharge! Stop by the JMC Library for pizza and a gift bag. Club Spartan will have activities like games and coloring. Hosted by the Office of Justice, Equity and Inclusion.

Community Service Network Committee: JMC Blanket Making
Nov. 20, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Room 336 Case Hall. The Community Service Network Committee presents JMC Tie-Blanket Making for MSU Safe Place, a program of Center for Survivors that provides emergency shelter and accompanying support for survivors. Learn more via jmcsenate on Instagram
MSU Model UN
MSUMUN is a committed group of students who develop Model UN scenarios throughout the year. This culminates in March when the organization hosts a conference for over 500 high schoolers from around the midwest. MSUMUN is a great way to develop both teamwork and research skills while engaging in an active community of fellow students. Visit msumun.org for more information. Yellowstone National Park Study Away (May 2025)
Led by Profs. Daniel Kramer and Sherman Garnett, the Yellowstone National Park Study Away program will take place May 16-25, 2025. Yellowstone is the world’s first national park and presents an extraordinary opportunity to understand contemporary conservation problems and their legal, political, economic and social challenges. This nine-day course will introduce students to many complex conservation issues related to Yellowstone including wolf reintroduction, invasive species, climate change, energy production and human/wildlife conflict. Students will have many opportunities for wildlife viewing, hikes and touring, and discussions with local scientists, landowners, park employees, environmental activists and others. Cost: $2,000, includes airfare, lodging, meals and all excursions (does not include tuition). Three credits fulfilling FW experiential learning, JMC SRP elective, STEPP minor science applications or policy elective. Applications are review as they are received. College of Education: Research Participant Opportunity
As a part of the course on College Student Development, graduate students are conducting a research project focusing on the experiences of students with minoritized religious identities at Michigan State University. Graduate students are seeking students who practice non-dominant religions that are willing to participate in a 45-minute Zoom interview. Learn more and apply via Microsoft Forms

Madison’s Drop-In Advising Center (328 South Case Hall) has updated hours for the remainder of the Fall Semester:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 12 to 4 p.m.

Thursday: 12 to 4 p.m.
Friday: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JMC Community Counselor: Drop-In Counseling
James Madison has a dedicated counselor on staff, Courtney Brown, available for drop-in counseling on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (S363 Case Hall).
