Policymaking as a Scientist with State Rep. Julie Brixie
Dec. 2, 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Holmes Hall, Room C-103 (919 E. Shaw Lane). State Rep. Brixie will discuss how her background in crop and soil sciences, with a focus on environmental toxicology, has influenced her approach to lawmaking in Michigan. Brixie has over 18 years of local government experience and has led committees related to agriculture, natural resources and tax policy. This conversation will look at the role of science in shaping public policy. Register to attend via Google Forms

JMC Meet the Minors
Dec. 3, 7 p.m. in 339 Case Hall. First-year Madison students are invited to learn more about JMC-affiliated minors (Political Economy, European Studies, STEPP and Muslim Studies) and other common minors that Madison students pursue. Students are strongly encouraged to attend all Meet the Majors events.
Brazil & Cambridge Education Abroad Info Session
Dec. 4, 4 p.m. in the JMC Library, 332 Case Hall. JMC students are invited to learn more about the Brazil and Cambridge Education Abroad programs, including each program's structure, unique features and the application process. Learn from students who attended the programs in previous years to get a student perspective on what to expect.
JMC Finals De-Stressor
Dec. 4, 6 to 8 p.m. in Club Spartan and the JMC Library. Need a break from studying? This event will help you de-stress and recharge! Stop by the JMC Library for pizza and a gift bag. Club Spartan will have activities like games and coloring. Hosted by the Office of Justice, Equity and Inclusion.
Thinkers and Doers: MSU Center for Community and Economic Development
Dec. 5, 4 to 5:30 p.m. 1615 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, or via Zoom. This event will explore "Green Zones" and opportunities to support vulnerable senior populations within Ingham County. Three guest speakers will share their knowledge and expertise related to health and wellbeing and the work their organizations are tackling for seniors. Holiday Harmony Bash
Dec 2. 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the MSU Union Ballroom. Explore a mix of traditions from different holidays through fun activities, themed crafts, and tasty cultural food and drinks, while supplies last. Dec. 4, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 337 Case Hall. Join JMC Student Senate’s CCP Caucus for an evening of karaoke and holiday-theme cocktails. All JMC students welcome. Learn more via Instagram
MSU Model UN
MSUMUN is a committed group of students who develop Model UN scenarios throughout the year. This culminates in March when the organization hosts a conference for over 500 high schoolers from around the midwest. MSUMUN is a great way to develop both teamwork and research skills while engaging in an active community of fellow students. Visit msumun.org for more information. 2025 Diversity Research Showcase
The 2025 Diversity Research Showcase – hosted by the Honors College and open to all Spartan undergraduates – is now accepting submissions. Click here to submit your research proposal on a project related to cultural, racial, ethnic, functional, gender, international, LGBTQ+, or political diversity by Dec. 17.

Yellowstone National Park Study Away (May 2025)
Led by Profs. Daniel Kramer and Sherman Garnett, the Yellowstone National Park Study Away program will take place May 16-25, 2025. Yellowstone is the world’s first national park and presents an extraordinary opportunity to understand contemporary conservation problems and their legal, political, economic and social challenges. This nine-day course will introduce students to many complex conservation issues related to Yellowstone including wolf reintroduction, invasive species, climate change, energy production and human/wildlife conflict. Students will have many opportunities for wildlife viewing, hikes and touring, and discussions with local scientists, landowners, park employees, environmental activists and others. Cost: $2,000, includes airfare, lodging, meals and all excursions (does not include tuition). Three credits fulfilling FW experiential learning, JMC SRP elective, STEPP minor science applications or policy elective. Applications are review as they are received. TEDxMSU: Spring 2025 Speaker Opportunity
TEDxMSU is a student-led non-profit organization focusing on platforming interdisciplinary speakers to promote inquiry and critical discussions on topics that matter. JMC Community Counselor: Drop-In Counseling
James Madison has a dedicated counselor on staff, Courtney Brown, available for drop-in counseling on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (S363 Case Hall).
