Internships Spotlight: Elena Sweeney

Photo shows JMC student Elena Sweeney in front of an artistic background with lights that read "Light and Warmth." She is wearing a black shirt and skirt and is holding a matcha latte.

Elena Sweeney is a JMC junior majoring in Social Relations and Policy. Below, she shares her summer 2025 internship experience with Hilton’s Global Corporate Headquarters.

“This summer, I interned at Hilton’s Global Corporate Headquarters in McLean, VA, with the Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships team. Hilton, a leading global hospitality company with 22 world-class brands, is deeply committed to social impact and community engagement through their Travel with Purpose strategy. Throughout my internship, I supported planning for Hilton’s global week of service, researched international nonprofit partners, explored AI-driven approaches to corporate philanthropy and developed a searchable database of 400+ nonprofit partner organizations. I also helped coordinate a food drive for So Others Might Eat at HQ and presented Gen Z engagement strategies to senior leadership. In addition to project work, our internship class took part in great programming such as  a hotel immersion experience at the Capital Hilton, a community service day with DC Central Kitchen and extensive networking opportunities with executive leadership. I’m excited to continue this work as I extend my internship into the fall.
FYI- Hilton’s Corporate Internship application is open for Summer 2026! Feel free to reach out to me at sween208@msu.edu with any questions or to set up a one-on-one to discuss the program.”

Learn more about JMC’s field experience requirement on our website. Students interested in planning their internship can connect with JMC Field Experience Coordinator Lauren Michalak (schedule an appointment with her via student.msu.edu).
