Each week, we offer the last word to JMC students. This week’s One More Thing is from Liam Richichi (PTCD, minor in Business and Organizational Management, ‘25):

The New York Times shadowed MSU College Democrats — including club president Liam Richichi — for three days on campus as part of a feature story on young Democratic voters in Michigan in advance of the U.S. presidential election. Here was their schedule during the three days of reporting:

  • Day 1: MSU Dems E-board Campus Walk with Democratic congressional candidate Curtis Hertel, who is a JMC alumnus and a former president of MSU Dems

  • Day 2: Voter registration tabling in Case Hall and south neighborhood, where they registered 25 new students

  • Day 3: Membership meeting in Case Hall with Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum

“Overall, we have a goal of hitting 2,000 new voter registrations through the start of early voting, which we are well on our way for,” wrote Richichi. “We have collected hundreds of commit to vote cards, which student voters fill out, get sent to Kamala HQ, and they get sent back to their address before the election with info on how and where they can vote. Working with the Hertel Campaign, Michigan ONE Campaign, and Brixie Campaign, we are tabling every day 4 to 7 p.m. on four different locations across campus: Case, Union, Brody and Wells. In addition to this, we have been completing dorm storming efforts to spread the word about the Democratic candidates up and down the ballot and register students to vote. We welcome new members to our club all the time and encourage them to join us at our regular meetings every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Case.”
