Madison in Washington Program
Applications are now open for the JMC Madison in Washington Congressional Internship Program (May 30-Aug. 1, 2026). Up to two students will intern with Senator Elissa Slotkin’s Office on Capitol Hill, gaining hands-on experience in federal public affairs while earning MC 400 & MC 401 credit. JMC will cover housing costs in Washington, D.C., and the internship is paid. Applicants must complete both the JMC and Senator Slotkin’s Office applications by March 2 at 11:59 p.m. Apply online via Qualtrics and Senator Slatkin’s Office Application.

JMC Student Assistant Recruitment Coordinator
JMC is seeking students to join as Student Assistant Recruitment Coordinators for the 2026-27 academic year. This paid role spans two semesters, with potential for further re-appointment dependent on availability and performance. Help enhance JMC's outreach and recruitment, liaising with prospective students, high schools and community organizations. Training provided. Apply via Handshake (#10691165 or search JMC) by Feb. 15.
Summer Beal Scholars at Beal Botanical Garden
Beal Garden Scholar work directly in the garden to maintain the beautiful space. Daily tasks include planting, wedding, watering, mulching, removing invasive species, event setup and more. Requires working outdoors in a range of weather conditions and temperatures. $15/hr, with a projected schedule of May 11-Aug. 14. Positions could start as early as March. Apply by Feb. 15. University Activities Board 2026-27 Coordinators
University Activities Board (UAB) is a student-run programming board that strives to provide unique, high quality experiences and events on campus. UAB Coordinators start at $15/hour and non-monetary benefits include professional development opportunities, available workspace in the Union, access to UAB advisors and resources, backstage access at events, UAB swag and more. Supreme Court Police Virtual Recruiting Event
Feb. 18, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. held virtually. Learn more about a law enforcement career with Supreme Court of the United States Police Department. This event will include a live Q&A with the recruitment team and a how-to-apply demonstration. Register to attend via Zoom.
New York State Dept. Of Civil Service Info Session
Feb. 26, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. held virtually. This workshop will cover a Department of Civil Service overview, including information and opportunities regarding civil service positions. This session will also explore the civil service merit system, public service opportunities and pathways available to access a multitude of employment types. Register to attend via Zoom.
North Carolina Department of Public Safety: Violence Prevention Intern
This Summer 2026 internship (May 18-July 24) will be with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Office of Violence Prevention. Key responsibilities include researching best practices in violence prevention and public health approaches, translating information to inform evaluation activities, drafting reports, presentations, and more. Congresswoman Haley Stevens’ Summer Internship
Interns work closely with congressional staff and gain insight into the day-to-day operations of a congressional office. MSU University Advancement Student Engagement Team Member

Bond Campaign Support Opportunity – Ingham Intermediate School District
This opportunity supports a school bond campaign for the Ingham Intermediate School District and is ideal for a Madison student interested in public affairs, communications or civic engagement. Responsibilities include sorting data, assisting with mailings, making phone calls and conducting research. This is an unpaid experience designed to provide hands-on learning, with gift cards provided to participants in appreciation of their time. The commitment is approximately five hours per week. Georgetown's Undergraduate Summer Law Institute
Capitol Law @ GU: Georgetown Undergraduate Summer Law Institute is a five-week, eight-credit program designed specifically for undergraduate students interested in law. Students gain first-hand exposure to legal education and the legal profession through immersive experiences in the heart of Washington, D.C. Attend information sessions on Feb. 5 or 10 and apply by March 6.
CLEO Inc. Pre-Law Summer Institute
Prelaw Summer Institute (PLSI) is a rigorous, residential program designed to familiarize and better prepare students for success in law school. PLSI 2026 will begin with a two-week (May 23 – July 2) virtual introduction to law school, followed by immersive on-campus experience hosted by Penn State Dickenson Law in Pennsylvania. Internship Spotlight: William Kuhl
William Kuhl is a second-year JMC student currently interning with Senator Elissa Slotkin’s Office as part of the Madison in Washington Program (apply to join the Summer 2025 internship program by March 2). Learn more about William’s internship below:
“I have only started recently this internships and am pretty novice, but I have made some great experiences already! My main role for Senator Slotkin is handling constituent correspondence. This is so that the senator can know about the issues that are most important to her constituents. Outside of that, I have spent a significant amount of time attending conferences and briefings where we take notes on the senator's behalf. After the conference, we use our notes to write briefings so that the senator's senior staff can get the information that they need.! For myself, I have already learned so much about how our representative democracy operates from a unique insider perspective in topics like national security, agriculture and foreign policy.”
