In Search of the Common Good Update and Other News
Hey all,
So we are one week into the launch of In Search of the Common Good. If you have already bought it, thank you! If you haven't, you can find it on IVP's website or on Amazon. Joie called our local Barnes and Noble last week and it sounds like they aren't getting their copies in till today so you may find it in local stores this week if you'd rather support a local business with your purchase.
Also: The launch contest is still going. More details on my personal blog. But the short version is if you post an Amazon review, you can be entered in a contest to win a jar of home made bbq sauce, home made rib rub, herbal tea from a local coffeeshop here in Lincoln, and a copy of Capon's The Supper of the Lamb. If you post a review and want to be entered, shoot me an email and I'll add you to the drawing: jakemeador@gmail.com
Other Personal News
We're having a book launch event in Lincoln in July and in Washington DC in August. I'd love to add a stop in your city if you have any interest.
I'll also be on a few podcasts and radio shows over the next month: I will be on Mornings with Carmen LaBerge on My Faith radio on July 10 at 7:30 central time. I'll also be on the Catalyst podcast, recording later that same day though I don't know when it will be released. I also have interviews scheduled with Dan Darling from the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and Alastair Roberts on his personal podcast. (Mere Fidelity is taking a summer break, but I'll hopefully be joining the full cast and crew sometime this fall.) Finally, I'll be on Amplify on Sunday, July 21 with Fr. Ronald Lengwin.
I'm also hoping to be on Simply Faithful, a new podcast that my close friends Gray Ewing and Eric Tonjes recently launched. They are four episodes in and are worth a follow.
Other Mere O News
I'm relaunching the Mere O email list soon. It's been dormant for several years so I'm sending out an alert to list members this week to give them a chance to opt out if they are no longer interested in receiving emails from us. But I hope to have the first regular email go out on Monday of next week.
Books
Last week I finished Emmanuel Katongole's Journey of Reconciliation and Jen Pollock Michel's Surprised by Paradox. I'd warmly recommend both and hope to have both of them reviewed or covered in some way at Mere O soon. (I'm going to review Jen's book. But I want to do a full theologian guide for Dr. Katongole.)
Also, C. R. Wiley's new The Household and the War for the Cosmos is very good and makes a nice companion to his Man of the House.
Essays and Reviews
I missed this essay when it came out, but do read this piece on the challenge of getting off psychiatric drugs.
On the political economy front, here's a good piece on progressive capitalism.
Finally, Matt Peterson's essay on the American founding and libertarianism is excellent.
Conclusion
Depending on when I get my next newsletter out, I may have news on a second book that I'm going to soon start work on. I'll keep you all up to date on that.
Thanks for reading!
