Yo yo. My bad for falling off. How you been?
Yo. It's been like almost two months since my last entry. Y'all know how it be. That's no excuse though - y'all trusted me with an address to hit you up once in a while when things go on. So let's catch you up quickly:
- Work at black.af has been smooth and smoky.
- My fitness is off.
- I've been out more!
- My side projects turned hustle are growing.
Work Life
This is less about what I do and more about how I feel about what I do. As a software developer, I feel entitled to be a blacksmith or carpenter of the digital world. So I feel super shitty when I see companies making money that are contradictions to my morals around one's personal autonomy, access and identity. I plan to expand on that on my blog in a few days but it's not getting any better. Apologies for the ominous tone of that message.
Fit Body WHERE?
I'm still on deck to head to Caribana this year but my body isn't where I need it to be. I passively train so I can go these days effortlessly. Carnival is over 8 hours of music, partying, dancing and excitement in open spaces. And I aim to not miss a single thing. I'll update y'all on my blog about my fitness goals (as I'm also trying to keep my progress on there instead of only publishing it to places where I don't own my data like FitBit or Gyroscope). All that is to say that I'm treating tomorrow as day one. We all know how hard the first day, let alone the first week, is. Wish me luck.
What resolution is the Outdoors In?
Another perk of working from home is being able to adjust/shift your schedule. I took a lot of random hour-long walks around my neighborhood to find little pocket parks and creeks that I can spend time writing notes to myself, playing with my dog or just enjoying the fact that trees are one of nature's most powerful weapon against climate change and that we get rid of them for animal meat.
Koype's Grown Up and Now She Wants Friends
I've gotten my take on a personalized social Web growing nicely. I have to finish some work on the portal that people can come to register an instance with but I'm aiming to have a turn-key demo ready in time for the IndieWeb Summit this year. It's only one part of a bigger approach to interacting on the Web. We need it sooner than later so we can help nudge the next generation onto platforms that won't compromise their digital security in the next ten years.
That's it for now. If you're interested in more detail about the stuff I'm working on for people regarding social networking, check out my Patreon page at https://patreon.com/jackyalcine. I also run a work-related newsletter for black.af that goes into the things I'm working on with my clients and things I'm using black.af. I updated the portofilo recently - check it out and see we can talk!
