Weekend in New York City
Hey there. It’s not freezing but it is cold in my city of origin. I’m also getting better at updating my Now page so it’d be a good reference point as to what I’m up to.
This weekend was the Women’s March and given everything that’s happened in the last year, it was a spectacle to behold. I didn’t attend myself - I actually did not know it was happening until my good friend out here in Brooklyn informed she was going. It also became a time to remind which constituency voted in our current president. It was a lot, like a lot, and I wasn’t even there to witness it.
On Haiti
I’m a first generation Haitian American. That said, recent events and the media’s spin on events has gotten me in a very mixed state, in terms of emotional turmoil to how Americans speak about Haiti (or the world, that is) and how much ignorance that exists about why Haiti is in the state it is in.
I’ve been working on a piece and a reading list for those interested in learning more about Haiti and its state in the world. She deserved nothing but the world. White supremacy was too afraid and killed the dream on site.
That’s all I have for now. I’ll be shooting out some blog posts over the week. Let me know if you have anything in particular you’d want me to cover.
