Looking for the "End" doesn't help anyone.
I'll have some availability coming up in Q2 for your software needs. I do work with Web sites and mobile applications, all for your needs. Wanna talk a bit more about it? Visit https://black.af/intake and let's get it started. Feel free to share that with a friend or someone you know looking for technical expertise.
Outside of cramming hours in Rimworld, I've spent some quality time thinking about the long term goals of the projects I'm working on. In this case, it's going to be Koype. I wanted it to be a thing that you could drop onto a computer and have it handle "you". You being your online representation of self with other compatible platforms (there's quite a few). I don't expect everyone to download a binary, set up redundant routing from their machine to the outside world and then handle failed interactions. I'm looking to make this as simple as making a site using Wordpress.
Looking at the 'Now'
Before I can even get to that lofty goal, I have to figure out what my (v1.0.0)[https://git.jacky.wtf/indieweb/koype/issues?type=all&sort=&state=open&labels=0&milestone=4&assignee=0] looks like as well as my (v0.1.0)[https://git.jacky.wtf/indieweb/koype/issues?type=all&sort=&state=open&labels=0&milestone=2&assignee=0). These version numbers only hold weight because semantically to humans, we consider these to be the firsts. The things that make this so difficult (in my eyes) is that I'm promising an experience on par with (if not surpassing that of) conventional silo-ed social media systems.
What this means is the following: - I'll be realigning my current development goals for Koype to focus on that v0.1.0, - The work for the hosted tool should be starting soon (like early Q2 2019) - I'll have a recap post about next steps
Looking at the 'Future'
I've been getting feedback from close friends about how to move forward with Koype (and its companion projects) and it really boils down (or up? since boiling deals with temperature and making it up go) to showing value. The following is how it works:
-
Koype provides you with a solid social identity under your terms. Your photos, check-ins, reposts, likes, etc all are things you produce. You currently have no say over what happens to your content. A terms of service you didn't understand can change tomorrow and all your work and connections are lost to your control (even more so).
-
Fortress helps services and people like you bridge the gap when it comes to logging into their sites. Services like dev.to pitch the use of Twitter or GitHub for signing in. But if you've opted to not use neither (maybe because of one's implicit support of American-based neo-Nazis or the other's holding company supporting and backing ICE), the most you can do on platforms like that is read. Fortress could be provided as another option for sign-in that'd let a human join on their own terms.
There's like four other projects I want to get done / work on that tie into this but the act of working on them requires a tremendous amount of my time. What do you think I should focus on? I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts. Am I trying to take on a buffet or am I going on this journey without a compass? Let me know!
I spend a lot of my time when not working with clients working on tools and software for the open Social web. You can find out exactly what I'm up to by joining my Patreon - you'll get more detailed updates with access to content before it's available to the general public.
