The most common SEO problem that everyone hates.
There's a few common problems with every SEO audit I do.
But only one of these things cause people to have a real meltdown.
"tell me something I don't know"
or
"ok but what else is wrong?"
or
"is that it?"
It's almost as if I've got no idea what I'm talking about.
So what is it that dominates every SEO audit I run?
A genuine lack of content.
Hear me out.
It's an all-encompassing issue.
It typically includes the following:
- having a blog (or area to house your content)
- posting regularly to the blog
- posting the right kind of content to your blog
- fleshing out individual pages on your site
You might have a blog but you either don't use it much or if you do, it's not the right kind of content.
Or it's not setup right (technically) and you're not using internal links efficiently (or at all).
For service-based businesses, typically those offering multiple (and sometimes related) services, there's almost always a lack of info on each service page.
Or my favourite: one super service page with a few mutterings about each service (but no individual service pages).
It's not hard to fix. It often just takes a lot of time. But everybody's impatient!
One of my favourite SEO case studies was almost entirely a content based fix.
I turned a business around and prevented someone from going bankrupt and homeless because when it comes to content, I understand and appreciate the importance of it.
Here's what I did:
- created multiple service pages
- fleshed out the content
- created internal links
- optimised meta data
- arranged for 10 unique pieces of content to be published over a 10 week period.
I'm not a saint. I'm an SEO professional. It's what I do.
So when I tell you that you need to fix the content on your site, it's nothin' but straight up facts.
Sometimes it's just your blog that needs more love.
Or you need to work on your content quality (are you writing for the sake of it?)
And it's almost always a lack of distribution (you post once, share on social and then forget about it...).
Your site needs the right kind of content.
The right kind of content uses the words that people search for.
And it's all written in a way that helps people and gives them answers.
This is what it means when your SEO audit places CONTENT at the core of its recommendations.
at least, this is what it should mean!
You know it makes sense.
