Stem the flow, with SEO
There’s a lot of talk about GROWTH in SEO.
Growing your traffic. Improving rankings Increasing revenue.
But there’s not a lot of talk about using SEO to STEM THE FLOW.
Let me explain.
We all want to grow; in every way.
But in order to truly grow, we have to look at what’s stopping us.
Or what’s causing us to go in the opposite direction.
If someone comes to me and says:
“hey, I want more traffic and more leads” and they show me a graph of consistent decline or stagnation, my immediate thought will be:
What’s causing this and how do we fix it?
Might sound like an oversimplified argument but I speak from experience on this.
Because in most cases when people need help with SEO, they’re in a position of decline or things are simply stuck.
And they need to reverse it quick smart.
And we all know how fast the results are with SEO.
So as much as we all want to see that hockey stick graph, we have to be realistic.
Putting external factors aside (politics, competitor activity, the weather)
So how do you stem the flow and begin to grow?
Are you publishing content regularly enough? (I’ll bet your competitors haven’t slacked off!)
Is your content still the best? (plot twist: it isn’t anymore!)
Are you linking between your pages efficiently? (guess what? you’re not!)
Is your site a user experience nightmare? Are the forms too long? Is it hard to navigate? Can you be easily contacted?
People probably hate using your site.
OK so that was a bit harsh.
But you know it makes sense.
If you’re in a position of decline and you need to get your website unstuck, go back to basics.
Fix links, update content, make the web a better place.
Stem the flow, with SEO.
Nothin’ but facts.
