"get new material"
"Why should I bother paying you to do this when I can do it myself?"
Why indeed.
This was the question posed to me by a prospective client.
This happened immediately after I gave them some general advice about SEO for their Shopify store.
It was based off my own experience running a Shopify store AND from getting excellent SEO results for other Shopify store owners.
I like to think I know a thing or two about SEO for Shopify.
"nothing new"
"I found the same advice online"
"get new material"
OK then...
You've just shown that I indeed know my stuff - because it's backed up by what others are saying.
"So why haven't you done anything with it yet?"
and the usual excuses came about.
"working on it"
"trying to find the time"
"too busy with other stuff"
I mean, this is literally why you pay someone even if you can do it yourself.
I pay someone to handle social media for Little Bundles, the online store I run with my wife.
We can do it ourselves and we have done so in the past.
But by paying someone else, it's one less thing for us to worry about.
And they actually do a much better job - not gonna lie!
They don't have blinkers on like we do as the business owners - so they come with fresh, unbiased perspectives.
And they get results. Surprise surprise!
Same goes for SEO.
Yes, you can find all the advice you need online. There's no shortage of guides on how to do anything and everything for almost every SEO scenario.
But the presence of this advice and having free access to it doesn't mean anything unless you take action.
Now whether you do it yourself or pay someone to do it, is an entirely different story.
I literally tell people how to fix up the SEO on their store.
And 9/10 people don't action that advice.
This is the stuff people get from casual discussions with me btw (not the paid work I do via Jambread, my SEO consultancy).
I recently sent a 3 minute video to an online store owner here in Dubai with no less than 5 unique and actionable tips for them to quite literally reverse their fortunes. FOR FREE.
And their site remains the same.
Look: I might give you advice like this but you have to remember folks: SEO isn't "set and forget".
Once you optimise meta data, fix broken links, add internal links and add more contextual, relevant content - what next?
Relax on the couch and watch the money come pouring in?
Please.
You're smarter than that.
You have to keep working on it; making tweaks; keeping a look out for what your competitors are up to (just in case they start doing more aggressive SEO!) and so on.
Don't be a sitting duck.
Don't let your ego get in the way of success.
Either get off the couch and do the graft.
Or get out the way and let an expert handle it.
The choice, is always, yours.
Stack your bars now.
You know it makes sense.
Peace,
Jaaved
