[SEO tips:] You NEED to read this.
OK I really need to get this out of my system.
It's about people claiming that linkbuilding is the most important ranking factor when it comes to SEO.
And I'm here to tell you that it's not.**
Purely because you can get results WITHOUT links.
Doesn't mean that you should ignore links though.
But it also doesn't mean that you're going to fail if you're focusing on other things.
I have gotten results for clients over and over and over again without any linkbuilding whatsoever. And THAT is all the proof I need.
Here's how and why:
I have focused on making websites more usable.
Whether it's page load or formatting or simply not being an obscene user experience.
I've done everything in my power for a 'better web'.
Now with Google's CWV updates rolling out with a focus on a better user experience, clearly, I haven't been doing the wrong thing. YA BOI IS ONTO SOMETHING!
But what about links?
Look, links is how Google comes together. It's how content is discovered and how content is 'endorsed' (number of links, the authority/credibility of those links).
But when a lot of great links:
- are nofollow by default
- and when webmasters don't co-operate as much
- or when you get tired of waiting for the links to come after you 'built great content', you can see why the focus on linkbuilding should be shifted.
AND don't get me started on there being no central source of truth on the strength or value of a link.
You want to use MOZ or SEMrush or ahrefs or Majestic? go right ahead.
But each tool has its own way of calculating things. And they vary so much, frankly, I sometimes wonder what people are drinking.
Let me level with you folks: you don't need to complicate your SEO.
Definitely don't lose sleep over your backlink profile.
I always say you should go back to basics, focus on the simple stuff and let everything else fall into place.
Simple stuff like using proper internal links.
Formatting your content for readability.
Not throwing your keywords around like confetti.
And so on.
There's loads of ways to get links to your site (passive or otherwise) but to say that this is the only way you're going to get ahead, is a straight up falsehood.
And this is the hill I will die on. Please, @ me.
Peace,
Jaaved
