🔗 ❄️ [SEO] Some cold hard truths about linkbuilding
Linkbuilding is a funny thing.
It's such a controversial topic, in its own way.
Some argue that it should be two words. Some say it's fine as one.
Some prefer to call it link acquisition. Or link creation. Or backlinking.
But when you find people arguing about mundane things like this, you know they've missed the point.
Links = the way the internet works. Quite literally. It's all links.
But don't be fooled by anyone putting them at the top of the SEO pile.
Because this is like worrying about chandeliers and the colour of the feature wall in your house before it's even built.
If your site is slow, looks like trash and is a pain to use, then the links will not matter.
Yes, links can bring traffic but do you want people coming to your house when you've got a leaky ceiling, a strange smell coming from the vents and broken stairs to your front door?
No.
You want to get your act together before you invite guests over. Obvs.
Use your site on mobile, on a 3G connection and see for yourself.
If your hair gets pulled out, mobile gets thrown around and you find yourself screaming for mercy, then you've got work to do.
But again, links won't fix this.
I know my own site needs work. And right now I'm working on a trimmed down version that focuses more on my blog posts and less on anything else.
The site is not as fast as it should be. It's readable and generally clean but not something I'm 100% proud of.
It's been over 2 years since the current design went live and it is time for a refresh.
I also I need more links. Links mean traffic and I'd like me more of that. Links also mean endorsements and I believe my content is worthy.
I also know that these links, with time, along with my on-page changes will help me rank higher than ever before.
But right now, making sure my site loads quickly, on any internet connection and on any device, is my top priority.
It should be yours too.
And hey, if you want to exchange links, hit me up. Nothing wrong with mutual backlink acquisition, provided it makes sense!
Talk to you next week.
Peace,
Jaaved
