SEO Rant incoming!
Someone asked John Mueller this question:
"does keyword research help SEO"
This is the precise kind of asinine thinking in SEO that needs to get in the bin.
This along with other equally brainless questions like: which is better? on-page SEO or off-page SEO
or my all time favourite: which is the best SEO tool?
Please.
If you ever find yourself having these thoughts and have this desire to ask these questions.
Just stop.
Think about how absurd this is.
Now you don't need to be an industry veteran like me to know how silly these questions are.
There is no such thing as the best SEO tool. A tool is only as good as how you use it and what you get out of it.
I pay for ahrefs which is expensive AF. I don't use half of its features.
But I know it's a powerful SEO tool, when used right.
Is it the best? "best" is subjective.
I know people who swear by SEMRush and would never use ahrefs.
And vice versa.
It's whatever works for you and your situation.
I know good SEO folks who don't pay for either!
And some only use the free version of Screaming Frog (that's hardcore if you ask me).
Now back to the original question.
Asking if keyword research helps with SEO is like asking if drinking water every day is helpful.
Such a ridiculous way of viewing SEO. It shows a complete lack of understanding of how anything works in SEO. Simply reading up on the basics will show you the critical role keywords still play in SEO in 2023.
You don't need me to tell you how important keyword research is.
That people even have the audacity to ask such a question, and that too, to John Mueller, boggles the mind.
So please, for the sake of all that is beautiful in this world..
Stop wasting the internet's time on useless questions.
Use your head instead.
It's the best damn SEO tool around.
End. Rant.
Peace,
Jaaved
