🚀 SEO. Ess. Eee. Ohh.
What's good?
I've been in and out of SEO land over the past few weeks.
But I'm back in circulation.
And here's some recent SEO issues I've encountered that I think you can learn from:
I audited a site where they linked back to the homepage from every single page on the entire site (no exceptions) but they did this using the first mention of the brand. I'm not sure why and I also don't think this is necessary. It's not harmful, as such but my question is: why? I'd be interested to see if this could have an impact (good/bad) if they used keywords instead of the brand name...
I found a website for a medical clinic that had misspellings of staff members names (3 different spellings for 1 doctor alone, on her profile page!). And they also used a combination of American and British spelling. My suggestion? pick one and run with it. This applies to countries like the UAE where we see both being used widely and no one can agree on which one to use!
A new client has a website talking about how good they are, and how high the quality of their overall services are but you know what they don't talk about? the individual services they offer. And this means: they don't have enough content about what they do and they can't rank for what they do. Which means: $0 in the bank. Cmon folks - write more content. You will unlikely have too much content. Trust me.
Its coming into Q4 and you need to start preparing for "the holidays" if you're in ecommerce. My online store sold Christmas gifts for babies last year and even though we got our stock, photos and promotions started super late, we did alright. This year? Ya boy is already firing on all cylinders because I kept my Christmas content live on the site (I marked them out of stock though). The W? My content still ranks well and is ready to rock n roll when demand for Christmas gifts will begin. Moral of the story: keep your seasonal 'ish online - just make it clear when it is/isn't available.
Title tags and internal links are the key to your SEO success. Get these right and you're on your way to printing money. These are the 2 biggest problems I see on the daily - on top of the mother of all SEO issues: NOT ENOUGH CONTENT. Fix these issues and you fix everything.
That. Is. All.
Peace,
Jaaved
