SEO: a personal email
Ok I'm sorry.
This was meant to be a personal email tying in my passion for SEO with the current conflict that's occupying the media with loads of good SEO advice.
But I realised it would be in poor taste, despite my pure intentions.
You don't need me to tell you that war is not good and that we all deserve to live in peace.
So let me tell you what prompted me to write this email.
I read an article yesterday that naturally hit a bit of a nerve (an SEO one, to be precise)
It was about how Russian influencers are being left high and dry on Instagram due to the social media blackout in the country.
They're now scrambling to find other ways to make money and stay relevant for when things get back to normal.
All their follower counts and engagement rates and whatever now = 0
And I would normally say: this is a good example of not relying on one platform for everything.
But that's what I'd say to a business in normal, non-war circumstances.
But these are everyday people, not businesses. And they're victims in all of this. I don't care what you think about 'influencer' culture.
Even with a website, good SEO and an active email list, it wouldn't change their situation.
Why? because someone could turn the internet off overnight and then none of this would even matter.
It's as simple as that.
So that's why I want you to know that yes, you should diversify your income and the channels your business uses to make money.
But at the same time, there will always be things beyond your control that can have a devastating impact - whether you're running a business or living your life as an influencer.
Life's short and everything can turn into nothing in a split second. If this conflict (like so many others raging around the world right now) don't show you this, nothing else will.
Take stock of what you have right now, be grateful and pray for peace, everywhere.
Peace is a basic human right and we all deserve it.
To a better world, tomorrow.
Peace,
Jaaved
