How to rizz up your Image SEO
Ok folks, time to get a bit pedantic about images on your website.
Make sure you name them correctly. Little bit of SEO benefit but it also helps you find stuff easily in general. WIN.
Compress them in size until quality starts to dip. You want fast loading images but you also need them to look FLY.
Use alt text. Goes without saying. This is underrated, like good internal linking.
I recently had over 100 images coming in at almost 500mb that needed to be sifted through and added to an online store.
It was made more complicated because:
filenames were generic
file extensions were mostly .HEIC
file sizes were YUGE
and I had to remove the background because these weren’t pro shots in a studio.
So you can imagine how much I have aged by having to rename files, resize files, compress files, remove backgrounds, upload files and manually enter in alt text.
I know it’s not fun but it’s worth it for the tremendous traffic potential from image search. Plus, it makes it easier to find your files (on your machine and website). And people don’t have to wait ages for images to load on your website.
Fire up some tunes, whack on some headphones and get cracking with images.
You’ll thank me later for making sense.
Peace,
Jaaved
