How to not write content for the sake of it
So you know how I hadn't emailed you in a month, because I had nothing of value to share?
I wasn't lying.
I drew a blank and couldn't think of anything to talk about that you could actually find insightful.
This doesn't mean I don't have ideas. I just didn't have them at the time.
I probably could have sent something out for the sake of it but then that wouldn't be worth your time (or mine).
This is the sort of mindset to adopt with your website content.
It's also why I don't have a blog on the online store I run. (not yet anyway).
I want to make sure I'm only publishing content that you would enjoy reading and find practical, no matter your situation.
I'm probably being very optimistic though and perhaps naive. Because the reality is, I'm probably never going to be 100% on value. I don't think many are.
But that shouldn't stop me or you from publishing our content.
There's a tonne of content/topic generating tools that give us insights. I like to use AlsoAsked.com to give me ideas on what people search for. This then gives me inspo on what to write about (for my other projects).
I suggest you use that when writing your content. You'll get lots of ideas and you can keep filtering and digging deeper to gain even more insights. You won't get search volume or an indication of popularity/demand but since this is literally what people also ask in Google, it's good enough.
Get inspired by this content, write content that's better than the rest (easier said than done, I know), internally link between relevant pages, tell the world about your new content - and repeat.
It's that easy.
So it's time for you and me to get back into it and start pushing out the kind of content we wish had when we were looking for stuff. Don't sweat the small stuff. Write as it comes to you, write naturally, write for humans. The keywords and everything else will work itself out as your content grows.
Just remember to tell the world once you've published. Otherwise your efforts will be pointless. And after all we've been through these past 2 years, are we really working without purpose anymore?!
Peace,
Jaaved
