How many water brands are in your supermarket?
What's good?
You know the hardest thing about sending out this newsletter each week?
It's knowing how to keep everyone happy.
I know many people on my list personally. And I know many from social media.
I can tell that a very large portion of my list are fellow SEOs (or people working in digital marketing).
The rest of my list come from all different lines of work, walks of life and timezones.
I'm grateful for this - it validates what I do.
But like SEO, in order to succeed, you have to be: RELEVANT
I have a low unsubscribe rate. I have a decent open rate.
I even got replies to my last email when I put some calls to action at the very end of a very long email.
This isn't a ranty complainy email though. Stick with me, I have a point I'm trying to make...and it relates to water brands.
Now I'm grateful I have this list with an audience that clearly cares about what I have to say. Thank you for subscribing!
This is why I still do what I do.
Just from my last email alone I had people asking to join the Dubai SEO Club WhatsApp group. And people asking for career advice. And someone asked me to help with a very complex technical SEO problem.
I have always struggled with imposter syndrome.
This email list is just one way I've managed to overcome it (to some degree).
It's because I believe in myself and my expertise and my experience.
This is what sets me apart from other SEO folks.
I mean, I work in SEO - a field so saturated, there's no barrier to entry and there's grifters and charlatans aplenty.
But still I thrive because I have viewpoints and understanding that is different enough to stand out. Somehow, I manage to get by! (God's Grace, of course)
And this is what you should keep in mind as we navigate a very uncertain SEO world with Google and AI.
No matter what your website is all about - you have every opportunity to let your experience, expertise and authority shine through.
You have so many opportunities to build trust with your audience. Trust, as in, you know your sh*t.
You could be selling himalayan salt products.
Or consulting on Islamic finance.
Or building a SaaS that caters to charities.
Whatever it is and no matter the competition: you have a unique voice and perspective, unlike anyone else!
This is how you and I will get ahead - by being unafraid to throw in our 2 cents.
Now back to water brands.
Seriously, how many do you see on supermarket shelves?
Way too many if you ask me.
But they all find ways to stand out (even if its gimmicky).
Just remember that even if you're "another water brand", you can and will find a way to stand out and carve out your place in the world.
Or in the case of websites, a place in the SERPs.
Thanks for staying with me all this while on a very heartfelt email this week.
As always, hit me up with your SEO questions - I reply to every email.
And if you're in Dubai and want in on the Dubai SEO Club, send me your WhatsApp number and be prepared for LOADS of messages all day errday. It's mostly to organise meetups in Dubai but we have plenty of SEO banter. And I take a zero-tolerance approach to anyone selling links!
Peace,
Jaaved
