Do you have the need for speed?
That’s such a cliche subject line.
But the answer to it is yes. We all have a need for speed.
Some time ago Google came out saying that page speed is a ranking signal of sorts.
And SEO folks went nuts to get their sites loading in fractions of seconds. It became quite the obsession.
Frankly, this should be (and should have been) a developer problem, not an SEO problem. But here we are.
The reality is: if your site is too slow to load, aint nobody got time for that.
Top rankings mean zilch if your site is slow.
You already know this though.
So yes, you should work on your site speed (use PageSpeed Insights, GTMetrix.com, WebPageTest.org and Pingdom.com as guides) and find someone to help you load your site faster.
But unless your site is slower than a sloth on acid, you should channel your energy elsewhere.
Like content relevancy, internal links and making your site super fun and easy to use.
That’s how you win with SEO, really. Lots of small wins along the way!
Having a super quick site is just the cherry on top.
You know it makes sense.
Peace,
Jaaved
