AI content battle. Who will win?!
What's good?
Just wanted to thank you for subscribing and reading my SEO tips. I appreciate you. <3
Moving along...
So I have to write descriptions for category pages for a client's online store.
They're in the kids toys business.
Why do I need to write this? because content on category pages improves relevancy, gives you more internal linking opportunities and you know, gets yo' content ranked. (all things being equal - don't @ me).
It also helps humans - you know, the people who visit your store and give you money for things. So that's perhaps a good enough reason to do it.
Now, normally I would just use my noggin and write the content myself, like I always do.
After all, I'm not half bad with the words and stuff.
This time round though, I wanted to give ChatGPT 3.5 a go. And I wanted to pit it against Shopify's AI tool to see who does it better.
I have not had a good run with Google's Bard so that is being ignored like a middle child.
What will I do in the end?
I predict I'll prefer Shopify's version better than ChatGPT 3.5 A while ago, I gave Shopify's AI tool a whirl when it launched, just to see how it worked and ngl fam, it wasn't half bad. It was probably good enough to use in public but not good enough for the level I aim for.
Now I may not use either version of content in the end. It's not like AI has feelings...
But ultimately, I will write it all myself and draw inspo from whatever AI has generated, if it's good enough.
And this is purely because I value my writing and my thought process.
I know, I know - AI can make my job easier - but this work is for a brand that is close to my heart, run by a family who live and breathe their passion - and I don't want to risk any issues with AI generated content. At least, not right now.
This isn't to say I'll never use AI-powered content, ever.
Safe to say AI is here to stay.
Many industries would benefit from AI generated content at scale.
But relying on it for all your content writing needs is risky. And lazy.
Just do what I do: use it for inspo, to help you get some different perspectives and even break writers block (I have done this many times).
But let your wisdom, personality and natural flair shine through your writing.
There's a million AI tools out there.
But there's only one of you.
SEO is already a mixed bag of jelly belly's bean boozled.
Don't play yourself.
Stay safe my unique little snowflakes.
Peace,
Jaaved
