5 quick SEO tips for the weekend (yes it's the 3rd email this week!)
Lucky you! 3 emails in 1 week after a month of silence.
I couldn't help myself. I just had to send out more emails. I got inspired!
This one is short though, I promise.
I wanted to give you 5 quick SEO tips for you to chew on this weekend to help you achieve your SEO goals even faster:
go to Google and type this in: site:yourwebsite.com (replace yourwebsite.com with your domain)
if there's anything that comes up that you don't like (wrong information or something appears when it shouldn't), then you've got your cut out for you. what happens next depends on what needs to be done (either a page is removed, content is updated or...)
your title tags are everything. vague ones tell us and search engines nothing but something that is keyword stuffed is overkill. get to the point with your title tags but don't make it cryptic!
look for more ways to link between your pages. even something as simple as linking to your contact page wherever you say things like 'contact us' or 'get in touch' or 'send us a message'. make it easier for people to actually contact you. make it easier for people to get around your site. it's handholding but it's effective because it creates a better experience when using your site and there is of course, the SEO benefit.
speaking of links, fixing broken links is also another quick win you can aim for. you can use SEMrush or ahrefs for this (paid tools but you can get some free data to help you). or you can use deadlinkchecker.com. No one likes broken links (esp. when it takes you to a vague error page) so find broken links and fix them. everyone will be happier because of it.
get your site verified in Google Search Console if not already done so (do it at the domain level). And while you're at it, get setup on Bing Webmaster Tools too. Both of these will give you wonderful technical insights into how they see your site. they're free to use and a gold mine of useful information (like what people type in to find your site!) and so much else.
and here's a bonus tip because it's Ramadan and a month of giving: take out some time to write meaningful meta descriptions for your pages. Although this isn't a direct ranking factor, it helps people understand the context of a page and in some cases, can entice a click (particularly helpful if your page isn't ranking high). Google naturally will choose how it displays this (sometimes opting for page content instead of what you wrote) but it's still worth spending a bit of time on.
Now go forth and conquer and make me proud.
Talk to you next week!
Peace,
Jaaved
