Stuck in the Technicalities
How to stop getting stuck in tech
If you find yourself stuck in Technicalities of systems, see it as a red flag. It basically means, you have shifted your focus from what's needed from the system to how it will work or the tech behind it.
If you catch yourself defending this for whatever reasons; here's a gentle reminder — you need to create systems to make your business boom, not to perfect the systems themselves.
But, “without perfect systems how will business work?” you ask. Here's the thing - if you spend a hundred hours on perfecting something that will save only a few mins a year, is it worth it right now? This is a very easy trap to fall into, because you'll always feel only a little more is left to do for it to become perfect. What usually happens is a perfectly good waste of time instead.
Aren't there things that will move the needle much more? Or at least creating systems in other parts of the business where there is no system at all?
So, if you catch yourself spending more time than anticipated, ask yourself if it's worth it anymore. Better yet, start only after setting a rough timeframe in mind, so you know in advance.
Wild goose chases that make you feel like you're making progress, when it's actually not; are a big blackhole only you can prevent. You just need to be aware of them by keeping a reality check on yourself.
Infact, one of the best ways to apply system is by starting with a ‘map’ of the systems you need to create. First define the continents and oceans - the major areas where you need systems currently. It might be sales, or marketing, or even finance. Then you break each up into its ‘countries’. These will be the major processes that you need to set in place, sales scripts, or a funnel or a profit calculator. Then break those down even further into states, cities, etc. till you get a good enough picture. Write down how each will help and what outcomes it should produce.
Finally, write down the absolute, shamelessly minimum things needed to get those working. For example, for the sales script, just write down bullet points to begin with. Profit calculation — just do revenue minus costs, then figure out where those figures can come automatically from. Marketing funnel? Just list out what points will attract you target audience.
Best part is, this gives you clarity as a business owner, but can also be used by your teams for clarity in their work!
Cheers!
