How to arrive at meaningful metrics
Answer me this — would you like your information organized or chaotic?
Especially if you're running a business, it's very important to organise your information in ways that make sense. It is the process of converting noise to signal. We all know this, but what stops us from actually doing so?
Very often, the real cause is an unconscious need to not know too much. Truth hurts. Apart from this, another reason is that it's just too complex. If you feel like you need a whole lot of data just to make even a little bit of real sense out of it, then it's because you still need to get clear on what you need.
For e.g., you know you want to make more money, but just staring at your balance sheet is not going to cut it. You need to follow the trail to check where & how to make it happen. If you've not done that, it will keep feeling out of reach.
