Impersonal + humane
Are systems too cold for human hearts?
Systems create an impersonal layer between people. For e.g., even though we know it's visible to the other people, filling out a complaint form feels easier than confronting to that person. This is an extreme example, but it holds true for less intense interactions too. I'm sure we all would prefer just updating a status in a drop-down rather than getting on a 2 minute call with our manager to update them.
This means that it's quicker, easier and clearer to get things moving. Even for more extreme cases, it's better to put things down in black & white.
Which do you think is more humane – being forced to go through possible waste of time & unpleasantness or a dropdown?
You may not fully agree, but I have yet to see a more effective tool to take the focus off of personal identity, and focus on the issue at hand.
