I like forests more
How systems actually allow for chaos and consistent results at the same time.
This is one of the reasons people give themselves to avoid making systems. Basically, they're saying they prefer the organic happenings & chaos more. Most of us indians are like this by default, you know? Too much organization and we feel bored.
I'm like that too. I love chaos & I genuinely think it's good. Some of the best insights & methods have come in the scorching heat of a moment. When there is a ‘make it happen or loose it’ situation, and the cost of not doing it is too high, something sparks in the mind. Call it jugaad or improv, it feels awesome to just solve things like that on the fly. This makes us feel alive and pumped – a very important feeling to have regularly.
But over time, when you go through the same situations again and again, it feels like a letdown. You see the better way is so obvious, but again & again you see people around you going through the chaos till they figure it out. Sometimes you also need to go through it again, because maybe your boss or client won't understand till they experience it. This kind of chaos is counter-productive and feels very much like a waste of time & energy.
Systems help you capture and use the insights gathered from chaos continuously and consistently. This ensures a few things:
The best way to do things get communicated to everyone consistently.
When new & better ways are found, you can just update the system and everyone will immediately use the better way.
This frees up all the time and energy wasted in solving problems that are already solved by someone else.
They make sure everyday activity is planned & tracked according to this best method yet.
All these aside, if you really want to enjoy the chaos, the biggest benifit is that systems free up your routine work and allow you the brain space to explore all the chaos you want, without loosing out on the results that consistency allows.
Yes, that means systems actually allow you more freedom to experience all the chaos you want!
After all, forests are interconnected systems too. Systems made so well that they can self sustain, automatically grow and flourish wherever possible.
