Good Systems make you feel good
The grease for your business engine
This is a simple way to know if a system is well-made or not — does it leave people feeling grateful and happy to go through the process or not.
Recently, we had to go to a government office for some paperwork. Unexpectedly, we left from there happy and grateful for a smooth & clear-cut process.
Whatever variations & modifications were needed also were done on the spot, leading to a big relief. I mean, who would want to go again and again. Similarly, I’ve had sweet sounds escape from my clients’ mouths in excitement when their systems are first shown to them.
The upsides are obvious; but the biggest one is that people get to do their work with a certain amount of joy & clarity. That is always a better way to work. Incidentally, it’s also a basic requirement for their personal best to be coaxed out on a daily basis.
The basic requirements to make this happen are:
The systems should simplify a difficult or valuable task for them, and:
It should be very apparent to the user, that without the system it would not have been so quick or easy.
If the second one is not there, we tend to take things for granted, like everyday tools (e.g. food ordering apps, running water in taps, and many other things like this).
Gratitude.
