Get the final picture first

A tactical way to tackle business metrics

Let's say, you want to systemize finances in your business. You will find that it's very easy to get lost in technicals. Once you start, there will be ideas flowing left right and center, some running out your nose too!

Before you know it, a month (or few) would have passed without it being too useful.

However, if you start with a clear picture of what you want to see, it's a totally different ballgame. Let's say, arriving at a certain ratio or metric is what will give you the most visibility, start with that first.

For e.g., if you don't see the profit / loss in realtime yet, it's a good idea to start with the most basic calculations for that. First take whatever latest figures you have, minus the expense from income and you already have your figure. Now it's just a question of linking it to your accounting software perhaps, which any technical person can help you with.

While this may sound simplistic, the method is powerful. It saves you from the silent dangers of intellectual masturbation, while ensuring you always stay clear in thought and deed. (Lol, the phone just auto corrected deed to seed)

This technique compounds in effectiveness especially when there are many metrics for you to curate.

Happy crunching!
