from Gossip to Grounding
How we encourage chaos by ignoring systems
Every time we do things in our business that is non-systematic, is it not equivalent to gossip for business?
If we don’t have a scientific system for appraisals, for example, then we are relying on the only other data point we have - our own perception. That invariably comes with our own biases, and probably many blind spots.
Only when we try to convert things to a scientific and systematic way, we are forced to look at how it will be self-sustainable. The math just won’t add up otherwise. There will be a leak of logic somewhere or another.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about making everything about numbers. That’s a loosing game because it is not sufficient. It is supportive, but never comprehensive.
An excellent example given by Capt Raghu Raman is one of a soft, humane system. This is a fantastic story [~5 mins if you can stop listening after the story :] about how the up front and open gossip to a superior was used as a tool to great leadership. It details a simple technique that is like vomiting out all the political puss that builds up in organizations over time.
If this helped you, forward it to one business owner you know. That’s how we grow.
