One of the most searched questions about Indian incomes has two very different answers - and most sources only give you one.

Among all 140 crore Indians (PLFS data):

• Top 10%: Rs 25,000-30,000/month

• Top 5%: Rs 50,000-60,000/month

• Top 1%: Rs 1.83 lakh/month (~Rs 22L/year)

Among 8.57 crore ITR filers (CBDT data):

• Top 10%: ~Rs 25 lakh/year

• Top 5%: ~Rs 38 lakh/year

• Top 1.1%: Rs 50 lakh+/year
