Budget 2026 changed your ITR deadline - here's what's new

Hey,

Budget 2026 quietly moved some important ITR deadlines. If you're a freelancer, consultant, or run a small business, one of these applies to you.

What changed:

  • πŸ“… ITR-3 / ITR-4 (no audit) - extended from July 31 β†’ August 31. That's an extra month if you have business or professional income.

  • πŸ”„ Revised return - extended from December 31 β†’ March 31. Made a mistake in your ITR? You now have until end of March to fix it (fees apply for Jan–Mar filing).

What didn't change:

  • Salaried folks on ITR-1 or ITR-2 - still July 31

  • Belated return - still December 31

These changes kick in from AY 2026-27 (i.e., income you earn this financial year, filed next year).
