Benvenuti di nuovo a tutti!
As you might have noticed, summer has officially ended. Do you know what that means?
The beach period is over (well, Italians aren’t exactly a big fan of cold immersion).
Now that everyone’s back to school or in their offices, we’re taking this chance to do a month-long break this October to rest and prepare ourselves for the next season of “The Italian Escape Podcast”. Smart of us, aye?
Here in Italy, a lot of the towns are celebrating their seasonal produce in the form of “le sagre”. Other than being an excuse to eat as a community, it’s also an excuse for the people to do weird activities such as hosting pageantry with the goats and pumpkins.
Two weeks ago, we were able to attend a festival dedicated to … mushrooms! Yes, “i funghi” is what they call it here in Italy. You can imagine how much we consumed in a span of a weekend. It’s a delicacy often found in the hinterlands, or the mountainous areas in Liguria.
If you stick around, we’ll be sharing our experience with you in the next season!
Now, for the moment that you’re waiting for: we’re giving you tons of recommendations (more than usual in this case) as today we celebrate “International Podcast Day”!
Below you will find other podcasts worth checking out!
Also, don’t forget to support us by joining us in our Patreon community, or giving us a review on Spotify, or in Apple Podcast from your phone.
Much love,
Angelique & Gabriele

Are you looking for a book of short stories that feel real to the bone?
Four years ago, Andrea Venturini released his first book entitled, La Salita, in which he narrates with gusto the everyday nuances of the people around him, including himself. These are partially based on his life experiences, as well as the books that he read while growing up.
I personally loved this book because I was able to expose myself to Italian literature without feeling overwhelmed by my limited Italian knowledge back then.
Sadly, this book is available only in Italy and the rest of Europe (if I'm not mistaken)!
We might consider putting up audio excerpts to give you a taste of his book (if requested by a substantial lot). So, if you really want this idea to happen, you might want to spread the word and join our Patreon community.
First released in 2014, I fondly recall this film as it was one of the first Italian films I watched together with Gabriele when we frequently went to the cinema. The story was based on the life story of Italian architect Guendalina Salimei.
As the title suggests, “Scusate se esisto!” focuses on the ongoing struggle for women to be recognized in a male-dominated workforce such as architecture in Italy. The film provides a touch of Italian sense of humor, which makes it a perfect film to watch if you want to have an idea of the ongoing gender gap in Italy in a less serious manner.
This film will give you an idea of what we will be talking about for our first episode next month, (wink, wink)!

Latest Episode: Una chiachieratta con Martina Bartolozzi
For our season finale, we had a chat with the wonderful Martina Bartolozzi, an Italian American trained butcher and food expert, who was born and raised in Tuscany. In our conversation we learned more about her life story, the struggle of Italian women in the food business, and the contrasting food culture between Italy and the States.
