009: coming soon to NYC and Budapest

Hello!

Thank you again for subscribing to this newsletter! It’s been almost 8 months since I’ve sent out updates in this slower, and somehow more personal format. Today, I have some events to share coming up in NYC and Budapest, and as always, a little summary of what I’ve been up to since the last email.

A screenshot of a spreadsheet, with iA screenshot of a spreadsheet. One column has images of various technical implements like a small scissor lift or a metal tripod, being held against a white wall. The second column has screenshots of 3d models from blender, which are a combination of spikey and heart-shaped forms
A teaser of what I’ll be showing at SculptureCenter

First up New York! Some images from Prompt Baby, as well as new sculptural displays, are going to be included in to ignite our skin at SculptureCenter opening on Sept 17. For those who can’t make it, a variety of artists in town for the exhibition (self included) are going to offer short/poetic intros to their work the following evening on Sept 18. And following that on Sept 19, I’m bringing Artist’s Model to Onassis ONX in an offsite event. I would love to see you at one of these events, if you’re in the city! Here are all of the dates/times in a more legible format:

  • Opening reception: Wednesday, September 17, 2025, 6–8pm

  • Artist program: Thursday, September 18, 2025, 6:30–8:30pm

  • Off-site performance with Onassis ONX: Artist’s Model: Friday, September 19, 2025, 6–8:30pm

Annnnnd Attn. Budapest: I’ve shipped out Gate, my 2022 LED tower sculpture, and a brand new wall-based work called Braess’ Knot to Binale, a new media art biennial in its second instantiation. While I won’t be there for the opening (also on Sept 17), I’ll be coming to town in early Oct to give a lecture at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and to once again, perform Artist’s Model. The exact dates/times/venues for these are still pending, but I will definitely share on social, so please follow there if you’re interested in joining.

And finally, for those in Berlin for Art Week, a few screens from my sculpture The Marginal Utility of Images are part of an exhibition that opened Sept 11 at the Kunstverein am Rosa Luxemburg Platz. This is an open edition of variable size, featuring AI generated alt-text of historically significant photos. I won’t be there unfortunately, but I will definitely visit the exhibition when back

Some other news, in bullet point format:

  • I was interviewed on ZDF Aspeckte about big tech oligarchs and the rise of the right, it’s a short clip and it’s in German (dubbed), but it can be watched online here and they took some beautiful shots inside my studio

  • In July I went full cyborg (aka, become an insulin pump user). I recently spoke to Tiff Regaudie, who researches disability and technology about some of my experiences in this podcast episode. Given the nature of my work, I often think that the fact that one of my organs is basically being replaced by open source software should probably make it into the art context at some point, but I haven’t quite found the right time or way yet

  • Mindy Seu launched A Sexual History of the Internet last week on Metalabel, and it includes a few images from Prompt Baby! The book launch is in NYC this week on the 16th, and you can find out more on Metalabel

  • A new sculpture, Remote Viewing, was included in the Triennial Kleinplastik Fellbach. This is a glowing “pixel” that shows exactly what Google Maps can see of the place that it’s placed, at 1:1 ratio. This is the last weeks to see it, for anyone that might be in Stuttgart area

I’ll be writing you next in October, because there’s so much going on in Nov that it deserves its own email.

And because you made it this long, remember that meme “A photo of you as a child that has the same vibe you have now”? I give you:

I have apparently been scowling at what I’ve seen in a book for some time
