A few days left to sign up for THE DARK FANTASTIC: CRAFTING UNPUTDOWNABLE FICTION
Hi all!
I hope you’re doing well. I finally got my revision-to-end-all-revisions in to my editor on Monday and have been indulging in some well-deserved down time. (By which I mean catching up on doctors appointments, taking dog to the groomers, unpacking the Final Moving Frontier that is my box-filled office… you know, super relaxing stuff.)
I’m so excited for you to read this book. I have one more tidying pass to get through before we send it to copyedits, and then it’s time to announce it! I sold it nearly two years ago, so I’m foaming at the mouth to tell people about it.
But! In the interim! I am popping into your inbox really quickly to remind you that you can still sign up for my course The Dark Fantastic: Crafting Unputdownable Fiction with The Writers Conservatory… until Sunday, that is!
The live version of the course begins on Monday, Sept 30! There is no cap for how many students can join, so hop on in and buckle up!
Some FAQ about the course:
What’s the difference between the live course and buying it later, when it lives in The Writers Conservatory course library?
Both versions of the course are composed of 9 pre-recorded lectures divided into three modules. Both have the same assignments and the same syllabus. The value of the live course lies in the fact that other students and I will be going through the material along with you, on the other side of your screen: the student chats provide real-time discussion opportunities, and the live Q&As with me every week throughout the duration of the course give you the opportunity to ask me in-depth questions about the material and your writing. I’m so excited to have conversations with you, face to virtual face, about the course material—there’s SO much to get into and so much to discuss! (BTS photo here?)
When are those live Q&As?
October 5, Oct 12, and Oct 19, 9am PT/12pm ET.
I don’t write Gothic/horror/fantasy. Could this course still be useful for me?
HELL YES. The techniques I cover in this course—from where to begin a book, to tight pacing, to atmosphere, to deepening emotional resonance—are genre agnostic. I crafted the course around specific genres that are known for showcasing these techniques and that provide a wealth of case studies to learn from, but I made sure that every single strategy and technique I teach is applicable to your own work, no matter what genre you write.
I can’t wait to see you in class!
all the best,
Isabel
