There Will Be Blood @ Metrograph
This week I’m seeing There Will Be Blood at the Metrograph! I’m going to the 6:45 showing tomorrow (Tuesday). The movie is long, and should get out around 9:30.
(Also a quick reminder that this week’s scary movie series screening is on Thursday instead of Friday!)
There Will Be Blood is one of those classic Films (note the capital F) that everyone should see at some point. Or at least, that’s my impression, as I have not yet see it and feel that I must. It won a huge number of awards when it came out and I would like to see why. There Will Be Blood is loosely based on Upton Sinclair’s novel Oil!, and is a tale of greed, obsession, and blind competitive rage in the California oilfields at the turn of the last century.
I didn’t send out a newsletter last week as I went to an impromptu screening with some friends, which means I never sent a note on Margin Call from two weeks ago!
I went in wanting something cathartic for my feelings of frustration with my startup. Although I didn’t expect to genuinely get any hit of that, I did leave feeling better. With my startup, I did my best, and did it with integrity, and ultimately that’s all that matters. I understand why they called it the “best Wall Street movie ever made”. It may not be a Film, but it’s certainly a great movie and I really enjoyed seeing it, enough that I feel a sort of fondness for it now.
