Sweet Sixteen @ Film Forum
This week I’m seeing Sweet Sixteen at the Film Forum! The film has a 106 min runtime and I’m going to the 7:40 viewing! Film Forum does not have assigned seating so if you’re interested in joining, we don’t need to schedule the ticket purchase.
Sweet Sixteen is a “quick, deft life-on-the-streets drama” about a young boy with a single mother turning to crime with the hope of buying her a home by his sixteenth birthday. That feels oddly sweet in a way that I think might be refreshing with all the insanity of my work right now.
Last week’s screening of Monkey Man really hit the spot. We felt it belonged on a similar plane as John Wick, which it clearly sought to emulate. However, it felt like it was engaging very aggressively with a particular cultural context in India which I didn’t feel I had had much exposure to, so some of what seemed like it was meant to be the ‘meat’ was lost on me. Still a very fun movie!
