PULSE @ Film Forum
Tomorrow I'm seeing PULSE at Film Forum! I have also officially decided that I've been there enough in the past month to warrant buying a membership :) unfortunately this membership only gives me a discount for a single ticket so unlike at the IFC I cannot offer you a discount if you join me!
When I went to see About Dry Grasses at Film Form a few weeks ago, I noticed a poster for their series on Japanese horror. I sent a picture to my brother who also loves film and also lives in New York and the rest is history!
PULSE is a 2001 horror film focussed on the consequences of emerging internet access. According to the New York Times, "there are very few moments in Kiyoshi Kurosawa's fiercely original, thrillingly creepy horror movie that don't evoke a dreamlike dread of the truly unknown.” As someone profoundly confused by the internet each and every day I have high hopes for emotional resonance!
Poor Things last week was excellent. It felt clear both why Emma Stone won best actress and the film won production, custom design, and makeup, and also why the film did not win best picture. I highly recommend checking it out! If you're interested in the director Yorgos Lanthimos, I got joy out of connecting its themes to those in his earlier film The Lobster. Regardless of whether or not you've already seen Poor Things I'd recommend watching The Lobster.
