Poor Things @ Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan
Tomorrow I'm seeing Poor Things at the Alamo Drafthouse in Lower Manhattan! I'll be leaving work a bit early to go to the 6pm showing since a friend is visiting from Maine and I need to be out earlier than usual to meet up with him.
Yesterday Poor Things won four Oscar awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone! Many are calling it Yorgos Lanthimos' finest film. I absolutely loved his film The Lobster and so I am making time to see this film now.
For those of you who haven't been to the Alamo Drafthouse before, it's a very unique experience. Everyone has big recliner chairs and you can have food brought right to your seat to eat on little tables! Importantly, they also provide excellent boozy milkshakes. Also, apparently the tickets are only $9! A wonderful deal.
Last week's viewing of About Dry Grasses was excellent. The 3.5 hour Turkish film about a dissatisfied middle school teacher in a tiny village had some incredible moments of intimacy the likes of which I've rarely seen. That mixed with some incredible shots of snow-covered Turkish mountains made for a wonderfully meditative evening.
