Lost Highway @ IFC, 6:55 2/10
DAVID LYNCH. IS DEAD!
Let’s honor him by watching one of his many very weird movies.
(I’ve been wanting to see one of his movies for weeks but there have always been others I’ve wanted to see more. UNTIL NOW.)
I’m seeing Lost Highway at IFC Tuesday at 6:55! The movie should get out by 9:15.
This is a very weird movie, an LA neo-noir featuring murder, infidelity, and ‘confused identities’ ie transformations. It’s a layered, experiential horror film that bombed in theaters when it came out.
We must amend that societal error.
Last week’s screening of the Brutalist was excellent. It hit me similarly as the Pianist. I later discovered that the same guy acted in both. Such things cannot be a coincidence.
It really was an excellent movie. If you do want to see it, you should be prepared that it is very heavy. It makes a fascinating statement on the way America views the refugees it receives, rejecting them while also relying on them for its elevation. The depiction of the way the trauma they are fleeing from impacts how they shape our country felt unique and kind of awesome.
