Killer of Sheep @ Film Forum, 7:50 4/23
This week I’m seeing Killer of Sheep at the Film Forum! I’m going to the 7:50 screening on Wednesday, which should finish around 9:20. My Film Forum membership gives me two discount tickets so let me know if you’d like to come and I can get you the good stuff for cheap ;)
Killer of Sheep is a movie about a hardworking, poorly paid husband and father who has fallen into melancholia. It’s also “a milestone of eloquent understatement capturing the daily life of have-nots as few American movies have” (Wesley Morris). The direct depiction of wealth inequality in some South Korean film contrasted with American film was a major influence in what got me interested in exploring international film; I am very curious to see how this American film handles it.
Last week I saw Bribe, Inc! It was fun. However, I went in expecting something on the level of No Other Land. I left with an even greater appreciation for No Other Land.
