HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS
We've seen a lot of Very Serious Movies recently. The Sacrifice, Soundtrack to a Coup D’etat, 2024 election coverage. This week, let’s see something else.
Let’s see HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS.
I’ll be attending Tuesday’s 7:30 screening of Hundreds of Beavers at the IFC. This screening will have an additional fan appreciation encore with with flight choreographer / Beaver Jon Truei.
(I’m not sure what that means either but I’m here for it.)
The movie should get out by 9:30.
Hundreds of Beavers is a slapstick comedy in the style of the 1920’s and 30’s, featuring a drunken applejack salesman who must go from zero to hero and become North America’s greatest fur trapper by defeating hundreds of beavers. It’s supposed to be incredibly funny, and from what I can tell, that’s about it. Sounds refreshing.
Last week we didn’t have a screening because I was traveling for Thanksgiving. (And next week I won’t have a screening either because I’ll be traveling for work.) But I can still provide brief remarks on our most recent screening of Soundtrack to a Coup D’etat.
This film was excellent. It was one of those films that makes you go home and reevaluate your life and education. I wasn’t exactly a history major but I felt disappointed that I never learned anything about war in the Congo. Certainly it is my responsibility to be informed of world events but I couldn’t help but wish our public school education helped us be more informed world-citizens, especially because our country has such an outsized impact on events in the rest of the world. The film really did an excellent job of translating that weightiness into something I could understand, and has made me think again about how my particular trajectory is impacting the world. Hopefully it is for the better.
