Eyes Wide Shut @ Metrograph, 6:40 Wednesday 1/15
Next week I’ll be seeing Eyes Wide Shut at the Metrograph! I’ll be going to the 6:40 showing on Wednesday January 15. I’ve bought four tickets which people can claim on a first come first serve basis. If I run out and there’s still interest, I can try to grab more!
I’m sending this email much earlier than I usually do as I suspect the screening will sell out so I have bought tickets ahead of time and would like to give people enough heads up that they reserve the tickets I bought!
(I forgot that my Metrograph membership allows me to get two cheap tickets so I paid full price for three of them instead of only two. Oops!)
Eyes Wide Shut is to the best of my memory the only post-1963 Kubrick film I haven’t seen in a theater setting. It was for many years my favorite film, and to this day it is my favorite Christmas movie. No wonder it’s part of the Metrograph’s series of holiday movies! The film is something of an ‘adult fairy tail’, and as such should not be taken at face value. It is also famous (infamous?) for its extravagant orgy of the rich and famous scene, so if that sort of thing makes you squeamish then this may not be a good one for you to see.
I haven’t yet (re)watched Ex Machina so I’ll have to send a review of it in a different cadence than I usually use!
